People have been selling items online for years now, and it can be a good way to make a few extra dollars. It seems to work like a virtual garage sale. Homes do spring clean-outs and list things on different online platforms for other people to buy. It can be cost-effective for the person looking to buy as well.

According to a survey of 2,000 participants between the ages of 18 and 24, a third of people are considering quitting their jobs to pursue this venture full-time.

The research was done by O2 Business; the most popular item to sell online was clothing, with 49% stating that is what they sell online. Shoes came in at 24%, and video games were next at 24%.

They also noticed a rising trend in youth selling fitness equipment and advice or classes to make some money. When asked why they are choosing to sell things online, the main reason was to bring in some additional money on top of what they are getting paid from their job. A big part of this was to help them support themselves while they are in school.

These individuals are being called “mobilepreneurs” and they are using smartphone apps to sell things online. One youth who has been selling items on an app called Depop stated that it is an easy way for her to make some extra money. She also stated that she goes to thrift stores to find vintage items, cleans them, and then sells them online to make a profit.
