There are definitely some things that we want our children to have personality-wise. Traits we want them to carry as they grow, and we do everything to make sure that they are good and decent human beings. We want them to be honest, empathetic and caring, but we also want them to have integrity. We want them to do the right thing when it counts, and we want them to do it simply because it is the right thing to do.
Will Smith shared an amazing story of integrity on his Instagram page, and if your children are going to watch anything that explains integrity, this is the video for them.
The video shows a triathlon that was going on in Spain, and in the video, you can see that the British runner, James Teagle, missed the turn towards the finish line. This meant that the runner behind him, Diego Mentrida, was now ahead of him in the race. Instead of racing to finish the race, Mentrida slowed down and waited at the finish line and let the Teagle go ahead of him.
He said that the reason he did this was because the mixed-up runner had been ahead of him the whole race and that he deserved to finish the race in front of him. This is a perfect example of integrity, and Will Smith said that it was enough to bring him to tears. These are the examples we want for our children, the role models that we want them to look up to and learn from.
