By now, many families all across the country have purchased their Christmas trees or at least are planning on buying one in the coming weeks. After all, it’s become an unspoken tradition to get your tree up as early as possible, or at least right after Thanksgiving (some holiday will even put their trees up as early as the day after Halloween). But now there’s a new report that says there’s one particular calendar day in the year that is the best time to buy a Christmas tree.

A lot of people assume that the best time to buy a tree is during the Black Friday sales or anytime during the post-Thanksgiving weekend. That’s when you can still pick out the best trees that fit all of your personal or specific requirements, from height, width, and so on. It’s also thought that these trees are the most fresh, as more often than not they were transported to a parking lot from a tree farm before making its way to your living room.

But that’s not necessarily true. According to Desert News, you shouldn’t wait too long to buy your tree, but you shouldn’t buy it right away, either. The average tree across the nation costs about $77 on Black Friday and goes up in price to $81 on Cyber Monday. But by December 18, whatever is left in the parking lot of your neighborhood Walmart or Home Depot is likely to drop to $64.

The National Christmas Tree Association even suggests that you wait until Christmas Eve to buy your tree. That’s when you’ll get the most value for your tree as the average cost is about $47 the day before Christmas. Participants in their survey admitted that they spend about $75 on a new tree every year, while others spend about $107 on an artificial  Christmas tree.

And while a lot of families would love to save money on their trees, they also want to enjoy the cozy atmosphere that a well-lit and decorated tree brings inside their home. Unless of course you decide to keep your tree until Valentine’s Day. We won’t judge.
