Target Has A Line Of Wheelchair-Adaptive Halloween Costumes

Sure, it's only July, but that doesn't mean it's too soon to start thinking about Halloween! Because let's be honest - the end of summer is always a mad dash of activities and trips and trying to cram as much fun in as possible. Then school starts, and everything just sort of turns into one big blur of time speeding by! And before you know it, it's October and Halloween is here and you're scrambling to find a costume in time. It's never easy to find the perfect costume for your kiddos - but if you're the parent of a child with disabilities, it can be even more daunting.

There aren't a lot of costumes out there for kids in wheelchairs or those with sensory sensitivities. So when Target announced it's new line of adaptive Halloween costumes, we were so excited! These costumes were designed with ALL kids in mind, and are a huge step toward making the costume industry more inclusive.

As part of their Hyde and Eek! Boutique, Target will be selling four new disability-friendly costumes, as well as two awesome wheelchair covers this Halloween.

The princess dress and crown set, which will sell for $20, is designed to be easy-to-use for kids with mobility limitations. The openings are in the back, allowing for easy dressing. The accompanying wheelchair cover transforms wheelchairs into beautiful carriages fit for any princess, and will sell for $45.

There's also an amazing pirate costume and matching pirate ship for your little swashbuckler! The pirate costume is designed the same way as the princess dress, with openings in the back. And the wheelchair cover will turn their chair into a ship any pirate would be proud of. The costume will sell for $25, and the ship will be $45.

Target will also be releasing two sensory-friendly costumes as part of their inclusive line of Halloween costumes. They have a unicorn, which will sell for $30, that will have all-over plush construction, flat seams, no tags, a hidden opening in the front pocket for tummy access, and the option to remove any hoods or other attachments.

The second costume in the sensory-friendly line is an adorable shark, which will also sell for $30 and have all the same benefits and sensory-friendly construction as the unicorn. We seriously love that Target is doing so much to be more inclusive, especially when it comes to a holiday that is beloved by all kids. Hopefully more companies start to follow their lead!
