Ugly Christmas sweaters have been around forever, and have found a recent resurgence in popularity since the early 2000s. Now there are ugly Christmas sweater parties and ugly Christmas contests which means that almost every major retailer is stocking their shelves with their own version of the ugly Christmas sweater this holiday season. Walmart Canada's ugly Christmas sweaters may have gone a bit too far in pushing the envelope and now the retailer is apologizing to those who were offended.

Walmart.ca has issued an apology after some of their 'adult' themed ugly Christmas were deemed offensive, with some even including an image of Santa with what appeared to be cocaine! The sweaters appeared on the company's Canadian website and have quickly been removed. “These sweaters, sold by a third-party seller on Walmart.ca, do not represent Walmart’s values and have no place on our website. We have removed these products from our marketplace. We apologize for any unintended offense this may have caused,” a spokesperson told Global News of the sweaters.

Although Walmart Canada has removed the products from their website, many eagle-eyed consumers were quick to take screengrabs and post them on social media. One user posted a picture of the sweater featuring Santa surrounded by a pile of 'snow' in front of him. The copy on the item reads, "We all know how snow works. It’s white, powdery and the best snow comes straight from South America,” the product description began. “That’s bad news for jolly old St. Nick, who lives far away in the North Pole. That’s why Santa really likes to savour the moment when he gets his hands on some quality, grade A, Colombian snow. He packs it in perfect lines on his coffee table and then takes a big whiff to smell the high quality aroma of the snow.”

Others simply couldn't believe that a company as big as Walmart would allow these to be posted.

Other questionable sweaters showed the beloved Santa in some very interesting situations, including "roasting his chestnuts" in front of a fire and in some very compromising situations. While many were offended by the messages conveyed and implied on the sweaters, others thought they were in good fun. "These are hilarious! Shouldn’t have been pulled," wrote one Twitter user. "I get Walmart is a family store and all but the sweaters are funny. Sure they may be a bit, and I stress a bit, inappropriate, but we should be able to laugh a lil," wrote another.

If you're upset that you can't get yourself one of these ugly Christmas sweaters, Urban Planet does have some similar ones for sale.
