It may be the year 2020, but we still have a long way to go when it comes to breaking gender stereotypes. The world is trying to make people think differently, and that comes to children and what they “should” be playing with and what they “should” be wearing. There is a concept that toys are genderless, and there is no such thing as boy toys and girl toys. The same needs to go for clothing. Girls do not need to wear dresses all the time, and boys can absolutely wear pink if they want.

Emma Willis is the host of The Voice UK, and she recently shared a picture of her 8-year-old son who was wearing a pink shirt. According to The Sun, she has had to block negative comments from the post due to her son’s fashion choice.

Emma said she was a bit overwhelmed with the response to her picture, because to her, it is just her son wearing a pink top and that is just how he normally is. He loves color and likes to express himself wearing colors in which he finds joy. She also noted that he has always had long-hair. She described her son as a very free and open-minded boy who just wants to wear whatever color he finds pleasing.

Emma said that she learned how useful the ‘block’ button was because she had to block several hate comments that were left about her son. Emma shared the picture earlier in the week, and she and her husband keep their children very private. They do not show their faces in any pictures.

Along with some negative comments, Emma also received many comments of pride and support. A lot of them congratulated her on breaking gender stereotypes. Her son, Ace, can be seen with a pink crop top, jeans and blonde hair down to his shoulders. He is also carrying a handbag. Emma captioned the picture by calling him her “little style icon.”

This is not the first time a child has been criticized for wearing something that others deem not suitable for their gender; however, the more the world is exposed to this, the more they will see it as normal and nothing to really be concerned about. A fan in the comments pointed something out to all the haters out there. She said that she bets this little boy is a million times happier than all the “judgey” adults who were on the post.
