Get Another Look At 'UglyDolls' And Be Ready To Fall In Love

This May, ugly will be beautiful. STXFilms releases UglyDolls, an animated film based on the popular plush UglyDolls. The toys have been popular for years, and given how many other popular toys and games for kids have been given the big screen treatment, it's no surprise that these little folks are getting a turn as well.

UglyDolls is an animated musical adventure, and wait until you see the main cast. Kelly Clarkson (in her first real starring role), Nick Jonas, Janelle Monae, Blake Shelton, and Pitbull. As excited as we are for the story, we're honestly the most excited about what is bound to be amazing songs. Because with talent like that, you will for sure be dancing in your seats.

Uglyville is a safe and happy place where all the UglyDolls live. It's a place where being different, maybe a little off beat, and against the norm is celebrated. Weird is the norm, and being beautiful has a much different definition than what many would likely think it does. Moxy (Kelly Clarkson) and her friends are the happy residents of Uglyville, where they "let their freak flags fly" and bask in the glow of their weirdness. Basically, it's a utopia for the UglyDolls, in that they feel happy and everything is brightly colored and fun.

In their first cinematic adventure, Moxy and the crew will adventure beyond the safe confines of Uglyville. Once they go beyond the borders of their safe town, they will learn a lot about the world around them — being forced to confront how to exist in a when you are considered different. It's an eye opening experience that teaches them about the conventions of beauty. When all they want it to be loved, they must learn that to truly be loved, you have to look within yourself first and realize that being different is just as beautiful. And in the end, they learn that no matter what you look like, you are amazing, and perfection is in the eye of the beholder. Being you is beautiful.

Additional cast includes comedians Wanda Sykes and Gabriel Iglesias and actress Emma Roberts. Singers Wang Leehom, Bebe Rexha, Charli XCX and Lizzo are also apart of the star studded cast.

The film's soundtrack will be released by Atlantic Records, but Kelly Clarkson has already released the lead single, "Broken & Beautiful," which she wrote and recorded specially for the film. It's likely to become an anthem for self acceptance.

UglyDolls comes to a theater near you on Friday, May 3rd.
