Sunday's NBA All-Star game, was kicked off by Chaka Khan, with her own take on "The Star-Spangled Banner." She certainly put her own stamp on it, and Twitter blew up with opinions on her performance; in a really bad way... She was, quite simply, absolutely roasted for the performance. Yahoo Entertainment reported that the usual length of a performance of the anthem, usually is between 105 seconds and 115 seconds. However,  Chaka Khan's rendition, lasted an amazing 142 seconds.

Twitter did not like the performance one bit. Some of the reactions were hilarious, and some were brutal. Fergie was the last performer, in 2018, to upset viewers with her less than acceptable performance, and Twitter users were quick to compare the two performances as being equally bad, with "Chaka Khan," "National Anthem," and "Fergie," all trending at the time of the rendition.

There's an award for solid burn for this tweet.

Oh dear, this one is controversial.

This one has an air of diplomacy.

There's nothing quite like an amazing GIF, to sum up just how you're feeling.

Some of the players had even walked away before the rendition was over, clearly not expecting it to last as long as it did. Most of the reactions made a Fergie/Chaka Khan comparison, or simply just expressed how unusual they had found the performance. Fergie could possibly be relieved that the focus has shifted from her performance, which may not now be one of the worst ever experienced.

The multiple Grammy award winner performed the anthem with a soul twang, in keeping with her usual style. Some have suggested that Fergie is now owed a public apology, as Chaka's rendition makes hers look acceptable, and others have shared mashups of the two performances side by side. Chaka is yet to publicly respond to the backlash.

Some supporters came out in favor of the performance, but most were quickly shot down by the haters. It's possible that many will be eagerly anticipating next year's performance, to see if it will top Chaka's, or hit the right notes with the public.
