Did you know that the breakdown of the American family can be traced directly back to working moms? Bet you didn't know that. It's fine, you're probably too busy working and neglecting your family to notice that it's in shambles. Working moms are so focused on making those big bucks to see that our kids are suffering and eating nothing but fast food and our partners are lonely and deprived. All this career-chasing and making money to, you know, pay bills and keep the heat on is ruining your family, moms! At least, that's how it works according to Lori Alexander. Alexander has a blog called The Transformed Wife where she preaches about how to change your life and save your family.
Spoiler alert: it's going to take A LOT of Jesus and submission. You can start by quitting your job, since that's probably at the core of all your problems!
Alexander shared a post called "Should Mothers Have Careers?", and whoo boy. It is a doozy. You can tell from the title that it's going to be totally balanced and not at all judgy, right? LOL, right.
In the post, she lists all the ways that working moms fail at motherhood and marriage, and all the ways stay-at-home-moms and devoted wives do it better. There's a lot to unpack here, but we have to admit, we were a bit taken aback by a lot of it. She makes working moms sound like actual criminals. That job is keeping you from being intimate with your husband, it prevents you from cooking dinner for your kids, and goodness, your life is absolutely falling apart!
Meanwhile, stay-at-home moms have it all together. They make a delicious, home-cooked meal every night, after which they probably give their husband a hand job to tide him over until the kids go to bed. After a long day of teaching their kids about Jesus, you'd think she'd be tired, right? Wrong, because all stay-at-home moms get to rest all day when their children nap! The life Alexander describes sounds pretty sweet, maybe we should all just quit our jobs and devote our lives to cooking, teaching our kids about Jesus, and having sex with our husbands.
In all seriousness, this kind of crap is harmful to all moms, and we're glad to see the blowback Alexander is getting from pushing this drivel (on Twitter, she got ratio'd to hell and back over this!). Working moms, stay-at-home moms, single moms, gay moms - we're all awesome, and doing the best we can for our families. It's too bad Alexander can't see outside her own myopic world to see that.
