Your holiday shopping is about to get a whole lot easier! Parents across the country were saddened when mega toy chain Toys R Us announced they were going out of business, but were excited when in October the chain announced they were no longer going to be selling off their assets. The company had decided to reorganize their remaining assets as Geoffrey, LLC and now it seems that they will be coming to a grocery store near you to make your holiday shopping that much easier.
Kroger recently announced that Toys R Us toys, branded as Geoffrey's Toy Box after the toy store's iconic mascot, Geoffrey the Giraffe, would be displayed in 600 Kroger family stores nationwide just in time for the 2018 holiday season.
According to a press release Geoffrey's Toy Box will feature a 35 different toys ranging in price between $19.99 to $49.99 and will feature brands like Animal Zone, Imaginarium, Journey Girls, Edu Science, You & Me, and Just Like Home that were exclusive to Toys R Us.
"Geoffrey's Toy Box delivers a unique shopping destination within Kroger stores," Robert Clark, Kroger's senior vice president of merchandising said. "We're excited to offer Geoffrey's Toy Box this holiday season to provide our customers with the opportunity to purchase a selection of toys once exclusive to Toys "R" Us."
While many toy fans are thrilled to see the iconic Giraffe back in action, some are upset that Toys R Us is back after accusing them of not paying severance to the over 31,000 employees who lost their jobs when the store initially closed. The New York Post did report back in October that the company was asking some of their laid off employees to return to back to work.
Toys R Us accounted for 15% - 20% of all toy sales last year according to CNBC and it's loss was felt by consumers and employees alike. Having this Geoffrey's Toy Box pop up may definitely make life easier for busy parents who will now be able to multi-task and do some holiday gift shopping while grabbing their weekly groceries.
Many fans are afraid it simply won't be the same as perusing the aisles of the Toys R Us store at your leisure while taking in all the different toy offerings, but with the Toy Box stocking brands that were exclusive to the store it will at least allow consumers to stock up on some of their favorite toys.
