This super easy challenge involves users taking videos of themselves wiping down a mirror with BMW Kenny’s track “Wipe It Down” playing in the background. The video starts with the user wiping their mirror while wearing regular stay-at-home clothes and wiping to the beat of Kenny’s song.

However, the third or fourth swipe gives the TikToker a startling surprise of an alternate version of themselves. In a flash, the TikToker's plain cleaning outfit changes into striking regalia straight out of a blockbuster movie. Fittingly enough, the sudden transformation leaves users pretending to be shocked and caught in astounded awe and utter delight.

The internet exploded when famed dancer and flamboyant dresser JoJo Siwa took part in the challenge the day before her 17th birthday, pulling out her ponytail and bow in the process. Popular musician Jason Derulo gets a radioactive spider bite halfway through one of the wipes and transforms into Spider-Man. The award-winning actor Will Smith transmutes into Agent J from ‘Men in Black,’ and many other celebrities including TikTok stars such as Avani Gregg and Gilmher Croes and famous YouTubers like Colleen Ballinger are jumping on the trend.

How did the challenge start?

Know Your Meme suggests that the challenge was started by @rominagafur, a TikTok user, back in April where her appearance transforms halfway through her wiping task as she wipes down a mirror.

The original video is set to the song, “The Box” by Roddy Ricch and garnered over 730K likes within a month and started a trend. The initiator @rominagafur did and shared a tutorial on how to do the challenge, and copycats created their own varieties until BMW Kenny partnered with a popular YouTuber, Liane V, for a version playing to his song. The challenge is now famous by BMW Kenny’s song with its hashtag having more than 460 million views and more people around the globe doing the challenge.

Creating this optical illusion is simply a matter of gathering your ensemble, taking a video of your activity from a steady angle, and backing it up with some imaginative video editing. Then, add in the tune by BMW Kenny and you are good to go!
