Feroza Aziz has taken to Twitter to state that she has been banned from TikTok due to a “politically sensitive” post she made about the Uighur Muslims. The woke teen hid the information in a makeup tutorial to get more people to learn about what’s happening in China. She’s been censored, but it only made her more fired up to continue informing people of the situation.

The Uighur Muslims in China have not received as much media attention as the protests in Hong Kong even though they’re both fighting the same oppressor. Chinese authorities have been condemned by the international community because of their mass detention and “political re-education” of a million Uighur Muslims and other minorities. The government has attempted to censor any media materials about the issue, and they have tried to extend this hold on the companies they’ve invested in.

Aziz cleverly disguised the clip of her talking about Uighur Muslim oppression in a makeup tutorial on TikTok. The video was captioned as a trick for getting longer lashes, but the hashtags read different keywords: Muslim, muslimmemes, and Islam. While she’s doing her makeup, Aziz talks about how Muslim oppression in China should be talked about more, and we should be doing something about it.

TIkTok banned her account after the video was posted. They gave her a warning stating that they are temporarily suspending her account due to multiple violations of their app’s guidelines. The company further defends themselves by saying that the video in question is not the one about the Uighur Muslims, but rather an older one about Osama bin Laden. They cite clauses on terrorism-related material to justify their suspension of her account.

Aziz is not buying this explanation, and she took to Twitter to expose what they’re doing. She tweeted that China is scared of young people finding out about their activities, so they are censoring material that they know will reach a wider, Gen-Z audience. TikTok’s decision to suspend her account only made her more passionate about the issue, and it doesn’t appear like she’s stopping her fight any time soon.
