'This Is Us' Will End After Season 6, Creator Confirms Parts Of The Final Scene Shot Already

All good things have to come to an end...after all, even Jack Pearson had to die (sniff). We always knew that This Is Us couldn't stick around forever, but showrunners have told Deadline that the beloved series could end as soon as season 6. We are not ready. According to PEOPLE, Isaac Aptaker and Dan Fogelman shed some light about what lies in store for NBC's award-winning show. It's not what any of us wanted to hear, but the Pearson family story could be concluded in three seasons' time.

Fogelman told Deadline that he already knew what the end of the show was going to look like when it first came to fruition, and it was never going to be a series that went on forever. He went on to explain that "All of the writers and the actors really know everything" about the show's conclusion, but are tasked with remaining tight-lipped.

Since its release in September 2016, the show has captivated audiences with its heartwarming storylines, following one family as they cope with the loss of the family patriarch Jack Pearson. Starring Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia, the series has garnered numerous awards, most recently scooping Best TV Drama Cast at the 2019 SAG Awards.

Isaac Aptaker expanded on Fogelman's comments, saying that the main objective of the production team was to leave audiences feeling like they had watched a complete piece of work, rather than something that was left unfinished. "I would hope that when we reach our ending, people think it's a really satisfying end place, that makese sense," he explained.

It can be difficult for TV shows to end gracefully, with some struggling on until viewing numbers force them to withdraw. If the show really does end after season 6, it'll likely be one of the most-anticipated show finales of all time. One thing's for sure - we're going to soak up all of that Pearson magic while we still can. The show is currently airing its third season, and we don't plan to miss a single thing.
