We’ve got good news for fans who once loved tuning in to the Sandlot television series. New reports say that there’s a sequel in the works and what’s more, the original cast might be coming back to the small screen, too.

Back in 1993, The Sandlot entertained fans as Scottie Smalls and his group of friends got into a number of fun but often daring escapades. It all began when Scottie moved into a new neighborhood and encouraged his new group of friends to play baseball with him at the sandlot. Together, they got into a series of trouble during the summer of 1962. Most of their shenanigans involved their baseball games, their tree house slumber parties and causing chaos for the lifeguard at their local pool. The group of friends were also accompanied by a ball-eating dog named Beast.

And now the cast will soon reunite for a film that is bound to bring even more adventures, according to the film’s original writer and director, David Mickey Evans. While there aren’t many details available about the reboot, The Hollywood Reporter hints that the show will come back with two new seasons and it will air on a so far undisclosed streaming service. Whether that service is Netflix or Hulu is anyone’s guess at this point.

The publication quotes Evans as saying, “I already got all the original cast members back. It takes place in 1984, when they're all, like, 33 years old and they all have children of their own, and that's all I can tell you."

As of press time, Evans did not say which members of the original cast would be returning. With that being said though, many of the original cast members often get together and were also on hand for the film’s 25th anniversary tour back in 2018. The 1993 film included Tom Guiry as Scotty Smalls, Mike Vitar, Patrick Rennar, Chancey Leopardi, Marty York, Brandon Quint Adams and more.

In addition, the television series is the second big announcement surrounding the Sandlot reboot. Back in August of 2018, reports indicated that there was a prequel film in the works. Evans was also attached to the film as a writer, although no further details have been revealed about the project.
