For moms who were hoping for a guilty pleasure during quarantine, one of the saddest things to happen during the pandemic was when ABC postponed the most recent season of "The Bachelorette." The franchise seems to be in an endless loop on ABC's schedule, and when we needed some romance and drama, lots of people ended up turning to Netflix's "Tiger King" as their guilty pleasure.

Finally, though, "The Bachelor" is coming back. And the new beau seeking the love of his life is also breaking barriers. GMA has reported that ABC announced that Mike James will be the first black Bachelor in the show's 18-year history.

Mike had been cast as part of the last planned season of "The Bachelorette," which was going to feature the first woman in her 30s to lead the show. But Clare Crawley's season was put off because of the spread of the coronavirus. ABC plans to air her season in the fall, and later, Mike will court a couple dozen women in search of love.

Matt is 28 and an entrepreneur and real estate broker. He's a native of North Carolina, and he's a do-gooder. He started an organization in New York City that engages kids in fun experiences and encourages physical and mental wellness. (Yes, we just swooned a little more.)

Matt apparently came to the attention of the franchise producers, because he is friends with former Bachelorette contestants Hannah Brown and her on-again, off-again boyfriend Tyler Cameron. He's been quarantining with the buddies, and Tyler revealed in a social media post that behind the scenes of his video interview with Good Morning America, Matt was just like all of us and not wearing pants.

The hunk isn't the first black person to headline a franchise, as Rachel Lindsay was the first black Bachelorette several years ago. She's been really critical of the show in more recent months, because she had hoped for a quicker change and more representation than two or three contestants of color each year.

We'll see what happens with Clare's season in the fall and Matt's next year. We'll be tuning in for all of the rose ceremonies and drama.
