Now that the fall season is officially here kids are excitedly planning their Halloween costumes as they plan out their trick or treat routes for maximum candy collection. And while most kids are all about Halloween at this time of year, Thanksgiving is also just around the corner.

While Thanksgiving means spending quality time with family and friends over shared meals and enjoying each other's company, it's also a time to give thanks. With our busy lives it's often easy to forget to be thankful for the little things as well as the big things. The craziness of the holiday season means we sometimes forget the true meaning behind Thanksgiving, but one mom has come up with a clever way for the entire family to show how grateful they are all they have.

Carolyn Copeland recently shared an idea on Facebook that has quickly gone viral. The "thankful pumpkin" is an idea that is so simple yet so powerful that many have already decided it will become a new family tradition.

Copeland shared a picture of a "Thankful Pumpkin" and explained the idea behind it on Facebook. "Want to start a new family tradition that will teach your kids more about thankfulness? Every night for the month of November, gather as a family and add a few items to your Thankful Pumpkin!"

We all strive to make our kids more mindful of all they have and ensure they're truly thankful, and the Thankful Pumpkin lets them write down exactly what they're thankful for. Having kids and parents write down all the things they're thankful for, from birthdays to video games to family vacations lets them not only give thanks, but to be reminded throughout the entire month of all the amazing things they have in their lives.

Commenters couldn't help but love the Thankful Pumpkin idea, and Copeland's post has quickly spread across Facebook with it being shared almost seventy thousand times.

Thousands of people commented on Copeland's post about what a wonderful idea it was and how it is a great way to get kids involved in understanding the true meaning of Thanksgiving.

"Great idea... great teaching opportunity for families, and a wonderful way to share their day," wrote one commenter.

Others commented that they'd like to have a Thankful Pumpkin for their classroom so their students could make one, while others wrote they'd love to have one for each of their kids to fill out, and then have them read all that they're thankful for before Thanksgiving dinner.

As parents we try to teach our kids to be grateful for all they have year round, but the Thankful Pumpkin is definitely a great way to have the put their gratitude in writing as a reminder all month long of everything they have to be thankful for.
