An assault in the Bronx, New York was reported to the police, involving some teenage girls. One 14-year-old girl was arrested while the other two ended up in trouble. It was not clear as to what had happened to land this teen in custody.
A video posted on CBS New York, Channel 2, shows the arrested teen escaping from the police SUV. One teen, presumably her friend, opened the back door of the police car to allow the 14-year-old girl to get out. The girl who had opened the door was also filming this incident, acting as if the event was a reality show. For some, this occurrence could be thought of as a scene from a distasteful TV show, just for ratings.
Police officers were appalled by the lack of seriousness on the teens' part. It seemed like a joke to them, as if they wanted to be known for deceiving police official. As reported by the news station, the girl opening the door can be heard yelling to her friend, "Run! You got it! My sister out!" The question that lingers in the mind, however, is how was this not noticed quick enough?
Manny Gomez, a former NYPD official and FBI agent said, “She mockingly let her go and mockingly put it on social media, as if it’s a joke. It’s not a joke” he said. He reminds everyone of the silliness officers have to deal with on a day-to-day basis. Police officers are called to many scenes that shouldn't require them to waste their time. Especially in a state, such as New York, there are more serious crimes that deserve the attention of the men and women in uniform.
The cops were inside the vehicle when the teenager escaped. The girls circled around the car, including the handcuffed teen, before running down the block, and then finally getting caught. The girls are also being charged for obstruction of government administration. Moreover, the officers who were in the car are not facing any punitive actions.
