Teen Threatened With School Expulsion Over T-Shirt

Going down the deep, dark hole of Reddit threads can always lead to things being discussed that will scare you. In a recent one, found on their legal advice subreddit, a mom reached out to people asking for advice for a really awful situation her daughter was experiencing at school. According to her mother, she has been suffering repeated sexual assault at school and instead of the principal stepping in to defend her, she's actually being threatened with expulsion for fighting back. Yup, digest that for a second. Something needs to change.

The mom, who is unnamed, described the situation that her 17-year-old daughter is going through at her Wisconsin school in great detail and the whole story is extremely horrifying for any parent.

She started out by saying that, “My 17 year old daughter was a late bloomer, but she ‘developed’ a lot over the summer. Since returning to school, she has been groped multiple times by her male classmates. She reported this to the principal and after ‘conducting an investigation’ he told her that the boys were just joking around and teasing her and she shouldn’t take it so seriously.”

There is nothing okay with that mentality and we can't even imagine what the principal was thinking. Joking or not joking, their behavior was sexual assault. But the thing is that even after an investigation took place, the behavior of these boys did not stop. So the mom scheduled an appointment to meet personally with the school principal.

She explained how her daughter is making it very clear that she does not want to be touched or spoken to this way by the boys and it's still happening. So her daughter took things into her own hands by wearing a tee shirt to school that has "boys are not allowed to touch me" written across the front.

Her mom explained in the Reddit thread, “Yesterday, my daughter wrote ‘BOYS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH ME’ on a white t-shirt and wore it to school,” the mom wrote. “I wasn’t aware that she did this but I don’t think it was wrong. She was sent home for the day and told that her shirt was inappropriate. I talked to the principal again today and he said that her shirt was sexist because it implied that ‘men are animals.’ He told me that he was considering expulsion over her t-shirt because it was harassment.”

Wow, just wow. We can't even imagine something like this actually happening in the present day and that instead of advocating for the rights of this poor little girl, that this principal handled the situation so poorly.

According to all the commenters and responses that she's been getting, the law is on her side. According to many people familiar with Wisconsin law, the mom’s next steps should be to file a police report for the sexual assault and to go to the school board with complaints about the principal’s completely unforgivable response. Furthermore, the school principal can be in really big trouble because he's considered a mandated reporter and in charge of the safety of all the children in the school.
