Every little girl and boy wants a looks like them, they want to be able to go into a store and recognize their face on the shelves. They want to care for someone as unique as they are. While we are starting to see dolls on the shelves that come from a variety of races and cultures, that may not be good enough. There is a huge gap when it comes to dolls that represent children who have a medical condition.

That is where Ariella Pachecho comes in. According to GoodNewsNetwork, Ariella is a 17-year-old who has always loved dolls and when she was younger, she was able to get an American Girl doll that looked exactly like her. She knows what it feels like to bond with a doll that resembles you, and she realized the gap for children who still can’t find that doll. She decided to take this issue into her own hands and make these dolls.

Ariella was inspired by another doll designer who makes custom dolls for children with disabilities and Ariella decided that she would design and sew unique dolls to donate to children who have rare medical conditions. She partnered with Fresh Start Surgical Gifts to find the children who would own the dolls.

The foundation sent her information on children who could potentially be an inspiration for these dolls. While it was likely a very hard decision, Ariella was able to pick four children. The children she picked had a port-wine birthmark, surgical scars, jaw alignment problems and facial/cranial anomalies.

Everyone was incredibly blown away and touched by what Ariella did and these dolls were going to make children feel like they wee not alone. Ariella taught herself how to make these dolls using YouTube, but she wanted to make sure that the medical conditions were not the first thing you noticed when you looked at the doll.

She said that all of these children were unique and special and she wanted them to see just how beautiful they are. The teens today are really blowing everyone away with their kind and innovative thinking and it gives us hope that the world will one day be a better place.
