Is there anything more frustrating or annoying as a parent than trying to apply sunscreen to a squirming, inpatient child? Sure, as adults, we know and appreciate the value of making sure our children's skin is protected from the sun's harmful rays. Because in the event of a painful sunburn, who's going to be the one trying to make it all better? That's right - we are! But you try telling that to a 4 or 5-year-old who only want to swim or play in the sand at the beach.

Also, as parents, we make mistakes! We forget to put sunscreen on before heading out into the sun for the day, or we forget to reapply every 80 minutes as is the recommendation. It really only takes one or two bad sunburns to learn that lesson, but how cool would it be if there was a way to prevent those from happening even when we drop the ball or our kids revolt against sunscreen application? Well, now there is! Or at least, there soon will be. A company called adam & aoki has developed a t-shirt that changes colors when a child is about to get sunburned, so we can act fast and prevent it from happening!

The company has a campaign up on Indiegogo right now to raise funds for the production of the sunburn-preventing garment. The way it works is pretty simple. One of the sleeves on the shirt is activated when UV rays from the sunburn action spectrum are present, and will turn bright red. The color changes BEFORE a sunburn occurs, so you have plenty of time to apply sunblock or get out of the sun before any damage is done.

They have three different shirts for different skin types: Level 1, which is for very sensitive skin prone to sunburns, Level 2 for skin with medium sensitivity that sometimes burns and sometimes tans, and Level 3 for skin that is not sensitive at all and rarely burns. Even non-sensitive skin that doesn't burn can be damaged by the sun's harmful rays, so it's so awesome that they included an option for that skin tone! There are five designs to choose from, like a lion or flamingo, and the shirt is 100% machine washable and reusable.

You can become a contributor to the campaign for as little as $43, which gets you the shirt of your choice in any size. If the campaign is fully funded, the shirts will begin shipping in July 2019. If it falls short of its financial goal (around $21,000), you'll be refunded when the campaign closes. It's a great idea, and we hope the campaign is successful!
