Sonic the Hedgehog is getting ready to save the world by coming to a movie theater very soon. The new trailer for the much-anticipated live action film has just dropped and fans young and old are very excited.

The live-action movie from Paramount Pictures features an all-star cast. The film follows juvenile delinquent, but lovable, Sonic the Hedgehog as he teams up with local policeman Tom Wachowski to stop the evil Doctor Eggman from trying to take over the world. The film’s  cast includes Jim Carrey as Doctor Eggman, James Marsden as Tom Wachowski and Ben Schwartz as Sonic. Other cast members include Neal McDonough and Tika Sumpter.

The film’s tagline reads that Sonic the Hedgehog is a “whole new speed of hero” who must use his powers to help save the world after an energy surge knocks out power across the entire Pacific Northwest of the country. Naturally, the government will turn to Eggman for help without realizing that they are giving him more power than he should have.

The film’s producers are Neal H. Moritz, Takeshi Ito, Toru Nakahara and Mie Onishi. The budget for the film was $90 million dollars.

Sonic the Hedgehog has long been a fan favorite among gamers who can’t get enough of the little blue creature. He was first conceived after Sega wanted a new mascot to replace the Alex Kidd character and compete with Nintendo’s Super Mario Brothers. The first Sonic the Hedgehog game was released back in 1991 and has been a massive worldwide hit ever since.

Typically, Sonic’s trusted friends Talis, Amy and Knuckles are on board to help him save the day against the evil Doctor Eggman and his plans for world domination. Sonic the Hedgehog helped Sega become one of the leading 16-bit era games of the 1990s. There have been many spin-offs featuring Sonic in the past, including a racing game called Sonic R and a sports game called Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, which was released in 2007.

In March of 2011, the Sonic series had sold over 89 million physical copies of its games and has grossed over $5 billion dollars worldwide by 2014.

Sonic the Hedgehog will hit theaters on November 8, 2019.
