As COVID-19 cases continue to decline thanks to the effectiveness of vaccines, many American families are looking forward to spring and summer plans outside of the house. While some parents may opt for a beach vacation or camping trip, large numbers of families are anxiously waiting to hear if they can flock to theme parks in 2021.

If your family is the type who enjoys roller coasters, then the latest park news will excite you: Six Flags Entertainment Corporation plans to open all 26 of its amusement parks for the 2021 season.

The North American theme park company recently shared a press release via Business Wire which detailed each of their 26 parks' opening dates along with any new ride or entertainment information for each park. While most locations will open between now and May, Six Flags did note that "reopening dates are subject to change based on local, state, and federal guidelines related to COVID-19."

According to the company's website, each Six Flags location will follow enhanced safety measures and regulations this year. Each park will limit the number of

guests per day, and all guests must make advanced reservations. Furthermore, masks will be required for all employees and guests, and the park will complete temperature checks prior to allowing anyone into the park. Employees will be sanitizing all rides, seating areas, and restrooms frequently while also maintaining new social distancing protocols for rides. Also, to further ensure safety and avoid any exposure risks, all facilities within the park will only accept payment via card or mobile phone.

Due to the pandemic, Six Flags parks across the United States, Canada, and Mexico experienced an 83 percent decrease in park attendance during the 2020 season. In fact, CNN notes that only 4.6 million people visited the theme parks last year, which was a sharp decline from the 26.7 million people who visited the parks during 2019.

For those who enjoy theme parks a lot, Six Flags is still offering season passes and monthly memberships to guests this year despite the advance reservation requirement. Furthermore, the company has opted to extend all 2020 season passes until December 31, 2021 — so those who bought passes last year can still use them this year too.

The company's online reservation system is currently accepting reservations through May 23, but promises to have summer and fall dates available soon. Those who hold memberships or season passes can visit the Six Flags website to make reservations, and those who plan to buy single-day passes will be asked to input their visit date at purchase.

So what are you waiting for? It's time to start planning that family vacation!
