If your kiddo is obsessed with The Secret Life of Pets, then they will be happy to know a sequel is coming. The hit film, which gave audiences a peek into what our pets do when we're not home, has a sequel coming this summer. And it looks like all of our favorite characters are returning for the sequel, plus some new friends. We have to admit, as much as the kids are looking forward to it, we are too.
The Secret Life of Pets (and the sequel) focus on a Jack Russel terrier named Max. In the first film, he lives an idyllic life with his owner Katie in New York City. But things change when Duke, a new dog is brought into Katie's house and Max's life. Over the course of a day, Max, Duke, and all of their neighborhood pet friends end up on the adventure of their lives.
From the trailer for The Secret Life of Pets 2, we can see that the focus isn't what pets do, but how pets feel. When Max is exhibiting some anxious behavior, Katie notices his stress and brings him to the vet where he meets and seemingly neurotic cat. As the trailer explains, our pets care so much about us.
Some time has passed (it's hard to tell if it's during the course of the movie,or between movies) and now it looks like Katie is a mom to a little boy. Anyone who has a pet and a kid knows that there is usually an unbreakable bond between the two. Max and Katie's son Liam are very close. Liam is shown mimicking everything Max does, including trying to pee against a tree. But when Liam goes off to preschool, Max is very distressed, which seems to set off a new adventure.
All of the original voice cast is returning, including Patton Oswalt and Eric Stonestreet as Max and Duke. Most importantly, Kevin Hart returns as the voice of Snowball, the fluffiest white bunny with a wild streak. In the trailer, we see that he now has an alter ego, Captain Snowball. And yes, he wears a superhero suit. New cast members include Tiffany Haddish as what looks like a Yorkie, and Harrison Ford in his first animated voice role.
The Secret Life of Pets 2 is in theaters on June 7th.
