Halloween is coming quicker than you can say “trick or treat” and that means one thing to a lot of children: candy! Candy is the highlight of Halloween and children work hard to come home with bags full of it. It is a reward for the hours they spend walking door-to-door in their best costume. While candy is good, there is a possibility that there can be too much of it. Parents gladly help their children eat their candy when they go to bed at night, but maybe that is not enough.

Since this year has been so difficult for a lot of people, Halloween could be an opportunity to teach children how to care for those who are not as fortunate as they are. Halloween may be the perfect time to donate some of the candy that your child brings home and get them involved in giving back to their community.

Mom may want to donate candy, but she is unsure of where she can give it. Not many places advertise that they will take unwanted candy for donations, but there are some places that will gladly take candy off your hands to pass on to others who will enjoy it, according to TODAY.

Treats for Troops is a great organization that will take candy and send it to soldiers. It is run by Soldier’s Angels and it is a great way for your child to show that they are thinking about those who are protecting the US and can not be with their families right now.

Halloween Candy Buy Back is another great place and it is run by (mostly) dentists who may be concerned with what all that candy is doing to your child’s teeth. They will take your extra candy and in return, they will give you toothbrushes, floss and coupons.

First responders and health care workers have been working around the clock to make sure we are all safe from COVID-19, and they may like a little sweet or two. Your children can send them some candy through Operation Gratitude. It is always good to think about families who are struggling right now and could use some help, and even though it may seem small, some candy could be just the thing to take their mind off what is going on. Ronald McDonald House Charities is another great option.

Mom may need to call her local location and find out their rules for bringing in candy, but most will accept some treats for their families who are dealing with children who are in hospital.
