Falling pregnant is an exciting time in any expectant mother’s life, and there is something about it that makes future moms and dads want to share their happiness with the world. Celebrities are no different in this regard, except for one thing; they tend to have a bigger platform to share their news.
With hundreds of thousands, and often millions of followers on social media, celebrities choose to share their pregnancy announcements, and then later the gender of their unborn child through these sites. But the way they do it is seldom the same. Some couples like to throw a big gender reveal party at home with loads of decorations and friends and family surrounding them, others get really creative, like a game of baseball (except it’s not your standard game) or a billboard announcement. And then there are those who feel a simple picture, like a sonogram or a pregnancy test, is all they need to inform people of their joyous news.
It seems 2018 was a good year for many well-loved celebrities, who either chose to expand their family, or welcomed their first child into the world, and below are 25 of the best baby gender reveals.
LeToya Luckett-Walker is a stepmom to her husband Tommicus Walker’s daughter, Madison, and when it came time to reveal that they were adding to their family, Luckett-Walker let Madison do the honors. In an adorable video posted on social media, the little girl spoke about the big news that the family had, saying, “First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby!”
Luckett-Walker later followed up this announcement with a pregnant photo shoot showing herself in a tulle skirt, followed by a stream of pink balloons, indicating that the pair will now have two daughters.
When Joanna and Chip Gaines wanted to announce that they were having a fifth child, they decided that the honors should go to a boy named Gage, who Chip met through the Tim Tebow Foundation. “If we're going to announce the gender of our #5th child. It might as well come from my new friend #Gage,” Chip wrote on Twitter.
According to CafeMom, Chip and Gage appeared in a sweet video together, in which Chip teases Gage that he wanted to name their latest addition, which will be a boy, Dragon. The unusual name choice is a suggestion because Joanna and Chip have named their other two sons Duke and Drake (both names starting with the letter “D”).
It’s hard not to like Emilie De Ravin’s gender reveal because she didn’t spend loads of time or money on it, but it is still one of the most relatable reveals out there. De Ravin decided to share with the world that she was pregnant with this picture, showing a positive test (and a hilarious facial expression).
She wrote in the comment section that she was having a baby boy. “Coming this fall...Baby boy makes 4,” she wrote, adding, “Eric & I could not be more excited to share our happy news with y’all & Vera is over the moon about becoming a big sister! (sic)"
Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson already have two children, Maxwell Drew, and Ace Knute, and they decided to get their help for the gender reveal of their third child. The couple shared that their third child would be a little girl, and got their children to pose with a stream of pink balloons.
Simpson accompanied the picture with the following caption: “This little baby girl will make us a family of five. We couldn’t be happier to announce this precious blessing of life.”
An insider told People that Simpson’s children are “super excited,” to have a baby sister.
Nicole Polizzi, or Snooki, as she is often referred to, thanks to her Jersey Shore days, will soon become a mother to a third child. She and husband Jionni LaValle have a daughter, Giovanna Marie LaValle, and a son, Lorenzo Dominic Lavalle, and they recruited the help of their son to tell everyone they would be adding another boy to their household.
The couple threw a gender reveal party, and Lorenzo and Jionni played a game of baseball during the party. Except this wasn’t a regular game and when Lorenzo hit the ball it revealed an explosion of blue powder. A pretty creative idea, but also a nice way to get her son involved.
When you’re an actress, what better way to announce that you’re having a baby boy that with a sign at a theater? Christine Lakin had a really memorable gender reveal when she and her husband, Brandon Breault, posed with their daughter, Georgia, in front of a sign reading “Coming Soon, The Sequel “Baby Boy” September 2018."
It was a smart way to announce they were expanding their family, and also gave fans all the information they needed in just one post. In September, as announced, the couple welcomed a son who they named Baylor B. Breault, People reports.
Disney Channel star Tiffany Thornton is already a mom to two boys who she shares with her late husband, but in May of 2018, she announced that she would be having her first child with her youth pastor husband, Josiah Capaci.
The couple shared their news on social media and got Thornton’s two sons involved in the gender reveal, which saw the family gather around a black balloon. When popped, the balloon showered them in pink confetti, signaling that they would be having a girl.
The couple wanted to know the gender of their little one. “I have to decorate everything, [and] get everything ready,” Thornton said in a video, People reports.
It seems 2018 was a good year for Hilary Duff, and she announced that she was expecting a second child, and the first with her boyfriend Matthew Koma. The couple decided to get their families involved to share in the love when they revealed whether they were having a boy or a girl.
They threw a memorable party with confetti cannons, and the color of the confetti happened to be pink! Duff couldn’t have been happier that they were having a girl, and she discussed this on social media. “A few months ago we had one of the most exciting Mother’s Day! Filled with amazing friends, family, mothers, and neighbors,” she wrote. “It was such a fun surprise! I can’t think of any other way to find out what was cooking in my belly than this…”

Former The Bachelorette star Jillian Harris shared the news that she and partner Justin Pasutto were expecting baby No. 2 on her website. But she waited until she was ready to share, telling fans she was sorry it took so long but she and Justin had the envelope confirming the gender of their little one “sitting on our counter for almost a month.” When they finally did open it, Harris didn’t want the reveal to be over the top, and instead, she chose to do it without decorations, and simply use their pool lights.
The lights turned to pink to show that the couple would be having a girl, and it was the sweetest way to tell their family the big news.
Some celebrities opt for a low-key gender reveal, and then others, like Tone It Up founder Katrina Scott, decided to go all out. In 2018, Scott and her husband, Brian Scott, announced they were having a girl, and they did this by taking a cruise on a boat with family and friends.
When it came time to make the big reveal, they used pink champagne, and the whole thing was filmed and shared on social media. In a caption, Scott wrote about how everyone had been expecting a boy, and that they almost bought a blue crib. But she was thrilled to be having a girl, calling their unborn child the “most beautiful blessing.”
Brittany and Jason Aldean's gender reveal included his two daughters, Kendyl and Keeley, from his previous marriage, and the couple’s son, Memphis. On a sunny afternoon, the family gathered for a game of baseball (much like Snooki’s gender reveal) and when the girls took a swing at the powder-filled ball, it released the color pink into the air.
The couple filmed the reveal to share on social media, and before the baseball game, Brittany asked Kendyl and Keeley what they thought the couple were going to have. Both of the girls said that it would be a girl, and it turns out they were right!
Prior to giving birth, Teen Mom 2 star Chelsea Houska said that her pregnancy was her "easiest pregnancy of the three,” E! News reports. And when it came to revealing the gender, Houska chose to tell fans that she and husband Cole DeBoer would be adding another girl to their family by sharing a photo of a sonogram. She captioned the photo by writing, “GUESS WHAT! A sweet baby girl will be joining the DeBoer clan in a few short months! We could not be more excited!”
Their daughter, who the couple named Layne, was born on Houska’s 27th birthday (making it probably the most special birthday of all).
Kate Hudson is one of the most stylish women in the world, so we probably should not have expected anything less from her gender reveal. When it came time to tell friends, family, and fans, that she and boyfriend Danny Fujikawa were expecting their first child together (and Hudson’s third), the couple got the help of Hudson’s two sons, Ryder and Bingham, and together, the four of them stood by four big black balloons.
They then popped the balloons, which exploded in pink balloons and confetti, confirming that a little girl was on the way -- and their reactions were adorable.
Carrie Underwood is one of the most relatable celebrity moms out there, and when it came time to reveal the gender of her second child with Mike Fisher, she wasn’t going to let her CMA co-host, Brad Paisley have the honors -- in 2014, Paisley accidentally slipped up and announced that she was having a boy.
In 2018, there was a similar dialogue, but this time, Underwood confirmed that she was having a boy, CNN reports. She continued, "Mike and Isaiah and I are absolutely over the moon and excited to be adding another little fish to our pond.”
When it came to sharing the gender of her second child with husband John Legend, Chrissy Teigen decided that a big party and loads of decorations was just not going to work for her. Instead, she chose to tell fans she was having a boy in a very subtle way.
She posted this photo on social media, which shows her quite heavily pregnant, and in the caption, she simply wrote, “mama and her baby boy.” Teigen had previously hinted that she and John Legend wanted a boy, telling Entertainment Tonight, "A little boy is next, for sure."
Shahs of Sunset’s Lilly Ghalichi and husband Dara Mir were excited to be having their first child, and shared this excitement with their fans in a YouTube video. In the video, Ghalichi spoke about her pregnancy and told fans that it was very easy for her to fall pregnant, explaining that it happened after “one try.”
“We are so blessed and fortunate because I know for many women it is difficult,” she said, Starcasm reports.
Towards the end of her video, Ghalichi surrounds herself with balloons and the color pink was the winner. The couple welcomed their girl into the world on Sept. 30, 2018, and they named her Alara, E! News reports.
When it came time for Shenae Grimes to speak about her pregnancy with husband Josh Beech, she did a pregnancy photo shoot with People magazine, and spoke about how excited they were for the new arrival.
“I feel like being a father was something Josh was put on this planet to do, and I’m thrilled that we’re welcoming a daughter because I know how special the bond between my mum and I has always been,” she told People. "She is such an incredible mama to me and I'm so excited to share everything she's instilled in me and taught me with our baby girl!"
When Cardi B and Offset announced that they were having their first child together, to say they were excited would probably be an understatement.
Cardi B definitely went all out for her baby shower, with Vogue noting it took more than 40 people over 2 days to pull the event together. And it was an event to remember, it was also one that had more than 26,000 pink and white flowers to celebrate their unborn daughter.
But she first revealed her baby’s gender during a chat with Howard Stern (via Complex), although at the time she didn’t want to tell the world the name they had already picked out was Kulture.
Like many celebrities, former The Bachelorette star Desiree Hartsock also uses social media as a place to share her good news, and in 2018, she had particularly good news to share; she and husband, Chris Siegfried, were expecting their second child.
The couple was joined by their son Asher, who they filmed taking a bite into a cupcake, while wearing a T-shirt that read “big bro.” The cupcake was meant to either have a blue or pink inside...and it was blue, so they were having a boy. It’s such a cute idea to get their toddler involved.
Francesca Eastwood had a great year in 2018, because it was the year that she gave birth to her first child, who she shares with partner Alexander Wraith. The couple welcomed a son named Titan in September that year, but first told family and friends that they were having a boy during their baby shower.
Eastwood took to social media to share that she had had a “beautiful breakfast” with her family and friends, or as she referred to them, her “lovely sisters.” And according to E! News, the cake had Peter Rabbit and a message of congratulations to “Franny and Baby Titan!”
Josh Brolin and Kathryn Boyd are adorable together, and in 2018 they expanded their family with a little girl. This was the couple’s first child together, and the excitement was real, although their gender reveal was pretty straightforward. Still, it goes to show that these things can be meaningful even without decorations and balloons (although those are great too).
Boyd took to social media and shared a photo of her growing bump, and in the caption she confirmed they were having a girl. "Something's cookin... Baby Girl Brolin on the way,” she wrote, following the comment with two funny hashtags, “#jbkbstucktogether” and “#loveisaslovedoes."
Jana Kramer and Mike Caussin were very pleased to tell the world that they had a second child on the way, and they documented it with a sweet video. In the video, Kramer tells the camera that neither she nor Caussin knew the gender, but her friends had helped them set up a pinata filled with confetti that was either blue or pink, so that they could find out.
And it turns out their baby was a boy, as blue confetti streamed down. Kramer later wrote on social media that they had been “convinced” they were having another girl, but were “over the moon that it’s a boy.”
Mike Colter and his wife Iva Colter now have two daughters, and ahead of the birth of their second child, they spoke to People about how they were feeling. And it was the publication that noted the couple would be welcoming another daughter.
“We are feeling happy but a bit nervous as well. It’s a new member of the family,” they said, adding, “While it will shift focus for us again, our daughter will probably be affected the most, so we are making sure she feels comfortable and excited with the change to our growing family.”
Diane Kruger had her first child when she was aged 42. The actress welcomed her first child with boyfriend Norman Reedus in November of 2018, People reports, but no other details were available, including the gender and the name.
But Kruger may have revealed the gender a long time ago and we just missed it because it was so casual, and according to ExtraTV, while promoting her film, Welcome to Marwen, Kruger seemed to hint that she was having a baby was a girl. She said, “She’s very little, but I’m tired. I feel like a superhero right now.”
There were some great gender reveals in 2018, and all of them were special and important to that family. But Lily Aldridge's gender reveal was a bit annoying because she chose to upload photos of her reveal that were black-and-white, letting fans guess whether she was having a boy or a girl.
Aldridge and her husband, Kings Of Leon singer Caleb Followill, held two big balloons, while their daughter Dixie stood in the middle. They then popped the balloons and looked very pleased with the results, except, fans didn’t get to know them. For those who are curious, she hasn’t given birth just yet but did recently write on social media she was ready to pop.
