The weather is getting cooler, moms are locating their children’s sweaters in their closets (that hopefully fit) and more and more “Pumpkin”-like products are being shelved at Trader Joe’s. With all of that being said, it can only mean one thing: Fall is here and Halloween is right around the corner.

With Halloween being only a few weeks away (a raise of hands for those counting out there), many moms and dads are already coming up with their Halloween candy and after trick-or-treating stashing plans. In other words, they know just what to do when the lights are out and their kids go to bed. They go through their children’s bucket loads of candy, pick out their favorite name brands and then stash them away in a secret drawer, hoping that they will last them until at least Christmas.

OK, that might not always work out that way, as we can also point out that stealing your children’s hard-earned Halloween candy is immoral and wrong, but apparently families do have their favorites, depending on what state you live in. According to CandyStore.com, American families will be spending an estimated $2.6 billion dollars on Halloween candy. That’s a lot of sugar, if you ask us!Nearly 179 million American celebrate Halloween each year, with nearly a quarter of all Halloween purchases made online.

The site also reveals that families spend about $27 on Halloween candy, while a little over half of parents like to stash their Halloween candy to enjoy later in the year.

Now, as far as different states and different tastes, California loves their Skittles, followed by M&M’s and Assorted Salt Water Taffy. In comparison, Twix takes the number one spot of most favorite Halloween candy in the state of Colorado while Floridians love their Snickers.

Elsewhere, candy corn rules in both Iowa and Idaho, while the Kit Kat remains king in the state of Illinois. Louisiana like to go crazy for their Swedish Fish and in New York, you can expect a lot of Sour Patch Kids to show up in your child’s Halloween stash. Thankfully, the good state of Texas knows the great taste of a Reese’s Cup, while in Wisconsin, Halloween trick-or-treaters love their Butterfinger bars.

Do you agree with your state's favorite?
