Families can come in many shapes and sizes, and they can come together in unique ways. For some moms, opening up their home and their heart to a kid who needs a family is the perfect way to complete theirs. That's why Ree Drummond, the culinary and lifestyle queen known as the Pioneer Woman, is opening up about being a proud foster mom.

On The Pioneer Woman website, Ree introduced her "bonus kid," who came to the family a year and a half ago. Jamar is an 18-year-old high school student who has fit right in with Ree's five kids, and she loves how he adds to the "wacky" fun and love in their Oklahoma house.

Ree posted a blog about Jamar and how he has become a part of the family, saying that that he is 18 and feeling comfortable with the family and with having the story told. It's going to be a part of her upcoming book "Frontier Follies."

Ree said that she and her husband Ladd hadn't planned to become foster parents, but her husband saw a need for a teammate on their sons' football team. Ree didn't know Jamar until the day he was welcomed in to their home. The famous cook said she offered him a plate of cookies before walking him to the bedroom that was once used by her daughters, who had moved out for their next phases of life.

While all the kids seem to have a healthy sibling relationship with Jamar, Ree said that it hasn't always been smooth, adding that her foster son has clashed some with her other 19-year-old son Bryce. She described it as a turf war and talked about how the parents try to help the kids work it out without taking sides, according to People.

Within days of his arrival, Jamar had an ATV accident that left him bed-ridden for six weeks, but which also helped bond the family. And Ree was sure to spoil him a little with her home cooking.

Blending a foster family isn't always easy, but as Ree has discovered, it can just mean more love for everyone.
