The fires in Australia have been caused by high-heat temperatures, a drought and winds. For the last three months, the country has been suffering a major heatwave. Parts of the country experienced temperatures as high as 120 degrees Fahrenheit (48.9 degrees Celsius). The engulfing fires began in September 2019 and continue to wreak havoc throughout Australia. So far there's been a total of 146 wildfires. Close to 3,000 firefighters are risking their lives to combat this disaster, so it's no wonder singer, Pink, is donating directly to the people saving the country.

In a recent post, published here on Moms.com, the zoo founded by Steve Irwin has taken care of more than 90,000 animals trying to escape the fire, which consumed their homes. Almost 500 million animals (mammals, reptiles and birds) have been affected by the wildfires. It is uncertain how many are dead, survived or how many are injured.

CNN reports that 24 people have died. More than 12 million acres of land have been destroyed. It's considered fire season in this part of the world. So, this isn't the first time something this catastrophic has occurred. Back in 2009, Australia endured the deadliest fires recorded for them; 173 people killed and 500 injured. For this current emergency, the countries of New Zealand and Singapore are supporting Australia with military services. There are several organizations raising funds, such as the Red Cross.

Consider donating or sending your support in a way that you see fit; it will be greatly appreciated.
