Peloton's holiday ad for their new products has gone viral and is being criticized for promoting misogynistic views on women. The ad, while it has gotten a lot of attention, has been received in a generally negative light. Despite this, the company’s stocks seem to be going well, so they might not be so bothered about the hate.

The ad begins with a husband giving his wife a gift for Christmas. She was so excited about seeing the exercise machine, and she couldn’t believe her luck. She begins to vlog her progress, and we can see her struggles as she tries to keep with the program. A year later, she says she can’t believe how much the Peloton has changed her: she’s more fit and successful. The ad ends with her saying thanks to her husband while looking at him lovingly.

The commercial has received a lot of hate because critics highlight how it’s in bad taste to give a woman an exercise machine without them asking for one. It’s basically like telling your significant other, “hey, you need to lose weight, so I bought you this expensive exercise machine!” The whole idea of dictating what your wife should look like and giving her the resources to be a certain shape was not well-received.

The moment that everyone hates is the ending. After a year of working out on the bike, she raves about her progress to her husband. She states how grateful she is for his gift, and she looks at him for approval of her new lifestyle. Critics state that if a woman wishes to get in shape, they’re 100% allowed to, but to do so because of the standards of her husband is not okay.

Despite this, Peloton doesn’t seem to be too bothered by the ad. As of the Thanksgiving holidays, their stock has increased by 14.6%. The negativity has gotten their name out there, and since the machines are quite expensive, they don’t need everyone to love them. All the company needs are a few people who want to try out their products, and they will be good with their sales. The true test, however, will be how their sales and stocks will do after this Christmas season.
