The college bribery scandal captured the nation thanks to so many high profile people who were caught allegedly paying big bucks to ensure their kids would get into some of the most prestigious colleges in the country. Actress Lori Loughlin and husband, designer Mossimo Giannulli were two of the biggest names to be implicated in the scandal with charges being brought against them alleging they paid a half million dollars to secure admission to the University of Southern California for their daughters Isabella and Olivia Jade.
While actress Felicity Huffman, who pleaded guilty to the charges brought against her in the scandal, maintained her daughter had no idea that she had a hand in her college admissions process, sources are saying that Olivia Jade Giannulli knew all about what her own parents had done. A source told Us Weekly that Olivia Jade, a popular YouTuber and budding entrepreneur before the scandal, was fully aware of her parent's actions to secure her admission to USC despite previous reports that she and her sister were unaware of any involvement by their parents. “Olivia fully knew what her parents did to get her into USC, but didn’t think there was anything wrong with it,” the insider told Us Weekly. “She didn’t get into any other California schools.”
Both Loughlin and Giannulli have pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against, with sources maintaining that Loughlin didn't realize that what she was doing was actually illegal. You read the complaint and they look like criminal masterminds,” a source told PEOPLE. “But they really didn’t know the legalities of what was going on. They’re not lawyers and they’re not experts. They were parents who simply wanted to make sure that their daughters got into a good school.” Sources say that Loughlin and Giannulli "claim they were under the impression they might be breaking rules, but not laws."
Olivia Jade was previously reported to be trying to regain admission to USC, which has been put on hold while they conduct their own investigation into the bribery scandal. If the college discovers that she was aware of her parents' actions she may not be allowed to go back to school.
Despite reports that the scandal has caused a rift between Olivia Jade and her parents, a source told US Weekly in April that they are still very close. "Olivia was angry with her parents at first, but now realizes that they were just trying to do what’s best for her,” the source said. “Olivia loves her mom and dad very much, but is especially close with Lori."
