There have been a ton of Hollywood Starlets over the years who have gone down the wrong path. Hilary Duff, however, is not one of them as she kept on the straight and narrow for pretty much her entire career. She started acting in her own TV show on Disney when she was just fourteen years old called "Lizzie McGuire". After this, she appeared in multiple shows and movies. She married Mike Comrie, a hockey player, in 2010 after dating for three years. A couple of years later they welcomed their first child, a son named Luca. Duff was ecstatic as she had always dreamed of being a mom and seems to have blossomed under this new role.

After six years of marriage, Duff and Comrie decided to call it quits but they remain good friends and dedicated to co-parenting their young son. Recently the news broke that Duff is expecting a baby girl with her new boyfriend. She is excited for this new adventure and Luca is warming up to the idea of having a baby sister, he even offered up a pretty crazy name for the baby, Cofant Croissant.

20 Her Son Changed Her Perspective On Life

Hilary Duff started her descent into fame when she was just a kid so it's no surprise that she became a bit swept up in the whole idea of Hollywood and everything that came along with it. However, once she had her son Luca she gained an entirely new perspective on life that she never even knew existed. She stopped worrying about the things that she could not control and instead began focusing on the right here and right now, which is something that we should all do in order to live a better and more successful life.

19 She Doesn't Beat Around The Bush

Many celeb moms sugarcoat all of the daily struggles that mothers face when they are trying to raise good, well-behaved children. However Hilary Duff is not one of them and she has no problem telling you exactly like it is. In an interview with Redbook, Duff was very vocal on what it was like to be a single mom, “I'm divorced, and it sucks," Duff tells Redbook, "Well, it did suck for a while; now it's just normal. But it's true, I do get a break. I had Luca by myself for a few weeks, no help, when Mike was on the road, and when he got home I was like, 'He's yours! Bye!'"

18 She Is Just Like Us

Being a bit of an airhead goes hand in hand with being a celebrity, or so it seems. Many celeb moms are all about natural remedies and solutions to problems that us regular moms have probably never even thought of. Duff is not unlike us and is one of the most down to earth moms in Hollywood. She understands that being a mother comes with a ton of learning and is not afraid to share her failures and lessons with other mothers. She was even criticized for kissing her son on the lips to which she responded with “For anyone commenting that a kiss on the lips with my four-year-old is ‘inappropriate’ go ahead and click unfollow with your warped minds and judgment.”

17 She Has A Thing For Bad Boys

Before marrying her ex-husband, Duff had her fair share of young relationships. One of her more questionable ones was with Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden. Their relationship lasted three years but was not highly publicized despite Duff being underaged. Even though Duff is often perceived as the “good girl” compared to the other Hollywood starlets of her time she does not have a problem shedding this title and has spoken openly about her past relationships. Her ability to talk about her past without judgment is just one more thing that makes her relatable to women everywhere.

16 She Was Married To A Hockey Player

Hilary Duff is a big believer in marriage and love, she has had her fair share of relationships but when she met Mike Comrie she fell hard. Comrie is an NHL hockey player from Canada. The two began dating in 2007 and in 2010 they finally tied the knot. Duff and Comrie had their first child, Luca, in 2012 when Duff was 24 years old. Everyone was pretty shocked when the two announced that they had amicably split in 2014. One thing that the pair kept reinforcing was that this is what was best for everyone and they would continue to co-parent their son successfully. Their divorce was finally finalized in February 2016.

15 Despite Splitting, They Are Still Good Friends

Despite their divorce a couple of years ago, Comrie and Duff are still close friends and often hang out together with their son Luca. Even though ti may be hard it is important to maintain a good relationship with your children’s father because it sets a wonderful example for your kids and also makes co-parenting a whole lot easier. “But we got together based on love and we separated in a very loving way. I can't imagine going through that process with anyone but him, and he continues to be my very good friend. That's honestly speaking from my heart.” Duff said in an interview with E Online.

14 She Embraces Her "Mom Bod"

One of the things that may be the scariest thing about becoming a mother is what will happen to your body during and after the process. No matter what you do you will most likely gain some weight as well as earn some stretch marks along the way. Afterward you may be horrified by what you see in the mirror and put yourself on an almost impossible diet and exercise regimen. While it's ok to live a healthy life don’t get too caught up in trying to get your pre-baby body back because most of the time it's not possible. Duff embraces her curves and when paparazzi try to embarrass her by capturing unflattering pictures she slams back, telling them she is enjoying her life with her son and doesn’t care what they think.

13 She Is Considered A "Young Mom"

Everyone is ready for kids at a different time in their life, there is no definitive age that you should have kids at. Duff was twenty-four when she got pregnant with her son and she received some backlash for her age. Duff has stated in multiple interviews that she wouldn’t consider herself traditional and the only thing that she has done traditionally in her life was getting married before having her son. Even though she was young when she had him she has always put his best interest before her own and tries her best to be there for him despite her busy work schedule. She started her career when she was so young that by the time she was twenty-four she was basically an adult.

12 She Is A Lucky Woman

Hollywood couples are no strangers to extravagant gifts, it is not unusual for celebrities to go all out for holidays and birthdays. Duff’s, then husband, Comrie followed suit when he bought her a Mercedes for her 20th birthday. Duff stated in an interview with People that her expectations were pretty low when Comrie called her informing her that he had bought her an early birthday present. When she got to her sister's house and saw the car sitting in the garage she was shocked, “I opened the garage, and I was just like shocked, just standing there.” said Duff.

11 She Returned To Work 10 Months After Giving Birth

Returning to work after having a little one can be one of the hardest decisions to make. You don’t want to go back too early and miss out on valuable bonding time with your baby but you also don’t want to stay home too long because it will only make going back even harder. Duff juggled with when to return to the acting world after having her son Luca but she finally went back at the beginning of 2013 when she guest starred on “Raising Hope”. She has stated in multiple interviews that she feels guilty when she is working a lot because she has to be away from her son for large periods of time. However, she understands that finding a balance is important and has been working on finding this balance since becoming a mom.

10 She Separated From Her Husband

When anyone gets married, they are excited about the future and believe that they will be happy together forever. However, when life gets in the way and the stress continues to pile on, you may find that you and your spouse are not as eel suited for one another as you may have first thought. Duff and Comrie found themselves in this position a couple of years after they were married. They decided to separate from January 2014 to April 2014. Eventually, they officially decided to call it quits and got divorced in 2016, stating “irreconcilable differences” as their reason.

9 She Doesn't Know What The Future Holds

When your marriage fails, especially when you have kids, it may feel like you will never feel that way again. Thinking about starting over with someone new can seem very exhausting and scary because now you have little humans to think about. Duff felt this way too when she finalized her divorce from Comrie. She stated in an interview with E Online that marriage is a lot of work and she couldn’t have imagined going through everything with anyone but Comrie, “But marriage is sacred and marriage is not for everyone. Marriage is work. Marriage is really hard. Everyone's like, 'Are you going to get married again?' I'm like, 'I don't know!’”, said Duff.

8 She Worked To Lose Her Baby Weight

In Hollywood, there are a ton of different methods that moms use to rid themselves of the baby weight, especially if they plan on returning to work right away. No one wants to appear on screen if they are not comfortable with the way that they look so they may resort to surgery or other unnatural ways to get rid of the baby weight as quickly as possible. Duff, however, took the more traditional route and decided to lose the weight through diet and exercise. It was not easy but she took her time and eventually she was able to be even happier with her body than before she was pregnant.

7 She Stars On "Younger"

Even though she has a young son and another child on the way, Duff has remained active in Hollywood and currently stars on the show “Younger”. “Younger” is a comedy-drama television series that airs on TV Land. The show was recently renewed for a sixth season and is currently airing its fifth season. Duff stars in this show as Kelsey Peters, a book editor at Empirical Press. Duff has been on this show since 2015 and plans to continue in the future. She tries to find a balance between work and her mom duties so a TV show works well because of its consistent shooting schedule and location.

6 She Knows What Motherhood Is All About

Being a mother is not easy by any means and Duff has no problem admitting that being a mother is the hardest job that she, or anyone else, will ever take on. She has found that there are a couple of things that make it a bit easier like resting when your baby is sleeping and making sure to take time for yourself in order to maintain a good mental health, but at the end of the day, it is tough. In an interview with The Huffington Post in 2013, she said, “But it is also a big struggle. It’s the hardest thing as well. You’re exhausted. You don’t have all the answers, no matter how many books you’ve read. You’re dealing with a hormonal roller coaster.”

5 She Has Mom Guilt

Over the course of motherhood, there are a lot of different feelings that will be bursting outside of you. One of the worst feelings that you will experience during motherhood is guilt. Leaving your child for anything is never easy, once you become a single parent and have to share your time with them it becomes even harder because you want to cherish the time that you have together. Nonetheless, most moms have to work and Duff is no exception to this. She is currently filming a TV show, “Younger”, and despite being a working mom for almost five years now she still feels guilty when she has to leave him in order to film her TV show.

4 She Does Her Own Thing

In this day and age, everything and everyone is on social media. Therefore people have a lot of opinions on what you do, what you wear and the decisions that you make, just to name a few. It can be easy to get caught up in what others think of you and forget that you are your own person who knows what is best for your child. Duff found herself getting caught up in what others think after giving birth to her son but she tries to block out what others think. Even though others may have been parents for longer then you, you did carry your baby around inside of you for nine months so of with your instincts and block out the haters.

3 She Is Actually A Good Person

Celebrities are lucky in the fact that they have the ability to make a difference in society. They have both the money and power that is required to start movements and make a change. Duff understands this and chooses to use her position for good, she works with multiple charities. According to looktothestars.org she works with twenty-nine charities in total and supports thirty causes! A percentage of her concert tickets have gone to hunger charities and she has encouraged her fans to bring food to her concerts for “USA Harvest”. Together, Duff and her fans have raised more than four million pounds of food for “USA Harvest”.

2 She Wants More Kids

Kids are a blessing, they have a way to change your entire life and open your eyes to a whole new perspective that you never even knew existed. It was never a secret that Duff wanted to have more kids with Comrie but that obviously went south when the two decided to get divorced. Nevertheless, she never gave up on the idea of giving Luca a sibling or two. Her dream of having more children recently came true as she announced in June 2018 that she was expecting a daughter with her boyfriend, Matthew Koma. Luca had mixed feelings when he found out that he was going to have a little sister but he is coming around to the idea Duff explained in an interview with People, “The beginning was a little, a little a… he was surprised,” said Duff “And now he’s warming up to the idea.”

1 She Takes Marriage Very Seriously

In this day and age, people get married quickly and for all of the wrong reasons. Marriage is not to be taken lightly and comes along with a ton of work and stress. Having been married and divorced Duff understands all that is involved in a marriage. She referred to marriage as sacred and gift in an interview with E Online, “But marriage is sacred and marriage is not for everyone. Marriage is work.” Despite this Duff has not given up on the idea that she would find love again and maybe even make her way to the altar for the second time.
