We cannot believe it's almost August. As we quickly slide through the final days of summer, our days are numbered in more ways than one. Netflix is also preparing for the end of summer, and if August is coming, we know things are leaving the streaming service.
Apparently, August isn't a good month for movie franchises. The first four movies in the Final Destination franchise (the fifth was never on Netflix) are meeting their fate and disappearing. Both The Butterfly Effect and its sequel are leaving as well. And both versions of Hairspray, the original 1988 version directed by John Waters and the movie adaption of the stage musical from 2007.
Also leaving? All the movies in the Cinderella Story franchise. The original, starring Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray in all their 2004 glory. But also, two of the direct to video sequels, including Another Cinderella Story from 2008, starring Selena Gomez in her Disney Channel kid phase.
While there isn't a ton of kid's programming leaving in August, there are some big ones. All five seasons of the Disney Jr. show Chuggington are pulling out of the station. Hopefully they'll come to Disney+ when it arrives, but in the meanwhile, say goodbye to Wilson and the gang.
Even though it wasn't particularly popular with adults, The Emoji Movie is a hit with kids. After repeated viewings, it kind of grows on you. But Gene and the other inhabitants of Textopolis will be deleting themselves off Netflix this August.
