It makes sense that TV is incredibly popular right now, the COVID-19 pandemic has made a lot of parent’s bend the rules a bit when it comes to screen time for their children and that is OK. Parent’s are more willing to allow their children to watch some Netflix if it keeps them happy, calm and occupied. TV can also be a wonderful escape from reality and sometimes it is just nice to relax and watch TV. The problem is that a lot of children’s programs can be a bit much to take for mom and dad.

One of the hot shows right now on Netflix is Cocomelon. Children love this show, and as soon as they hear the theme music, the immediately run to the TV and tune in. It turns out that we may have underestimated their love for it, because it turns out that it is breaking records on the streaming service according to The Guardian.

While Netflix has a full catalogue of children’s programming, they are more commonly known for having content like Friends, The Office and Tiger King. That is what you immediately think of when you think of popular programs on Netflix, so it is a bit shocking that a child’s show has taken front and center. Cocomelon broke a record by staying in the top 10 most-watched shows for 62 days.

This comes as a bit of surprise because there is not much to the show, when you are looking at it from a content perspective. For any parent that doesn’t know what the show is, it is just three hour-long episodes of nursery rhyme compilations. It is not even really a Netflix original. All it consists of is edited clips taken from their YouTube channel and made into episodes for the streaming service.

Regardless of what mom and dad think of this show, young children just love it, and they are guaranteed to just sit there and watch it. This is a dangerous game for mom, because it is tempting. It is tempting to put it on so that mom can make dinner in peace, or possibly take a shower.

However, mom needs to be mindful that if she introduces her child to this show she may be opening up a box that can not be closed. Mom may get caught in this endless cycle of the same songs and tunes over and over again.
