Mother-In-Law Wants To Breastfeed Grand-Baby Herself & Won't Take No For An Answer

Everyone has a mother-in-law (MIL) story that makes their friends shake their heads in disbelief. Maybe she stepped on toes by correcting your recipe, questioned your ability to parent your child, or still babies her son to the point where it's just plain weird. Still, at the end of it, most moms know that their MIL means well and loves them no matter what.

One mom-to-be has a story that tops probably every other one out there though. She was so perplexed by the situation that she took to Reddit to seek advice on how to handle it. The thread is now deleted, but before the moderators took it and its responses down, it was a viral sensation because the poor girl was upset because her MIL wanted to breastfeed her grand-baby.

Yes, you read that right. Grandma wanted to breastfeed her daughter-in-law's child.

According to the world's most patient daughter-in-law, her MIL "found articles from different cultures that do this and is thinking it’s a great idea. I have told her gross no, my mom got involved and said no, but she is still finding articles and sending them to me about all the benefits." She went on to say, "I’m beyond done with this woman, but out of respect for my husband I am trying to keep a level head, but I’m starting to fail with my due date fast approaching ..."

Let's all have a round of applause for this woman for staying this cool in general, not to mention while pregnant and hormonal!

The mom-to-be is due in November and didn't mention how her 60-something-year-old MIL planned to get her body to start producing milk, but couldn't stand the idea regardless of whether or not it's even possible. In all fairness, the MIL had her shot at raising a baby already and for many women breastfeeding is a large part of the bonding experience so mom-to-be should be the first (and only) person to breastfeed her child.

Other Reddit users definitely seemed to agree with the mama. Some reminded her that it's her husband's job to protect her and his new baby and should be standing up to his own mom instead of leaving his wife to do the dirty work. By and large, everyone is just grossed out by the idea and wonder if this is her MIL's way of trying to relive motherhood.

The mom-to-be did eventually post an update that she felt "empowered" by everyone's responses and that her husband will be stepping up to confront his mom over all of this. So, hopefully, she won't have to even worry about this completely crazy idea anymore!

Your MIL is probably looking pretty good right now, isn't she?
