If you've got older kids, then the start of school each year probably probably looks a lot different these days. Just ask this one mom who dressed up in a unicorn costume and danced for her kid's first day of school. Once kids hit a certain age, they get a little too cool for us, right? They want to pick out their own school supplies and their own clothes. They're the ones who lay out their clothes the night before their first day of school, and decide how they want to wear their hair. They don't want us to walk them to the gate in the morning, or give them a big hug and a kiss in front of all their friends. As parents, it's a tough transition. But we know it's all part of the them growing up and getting more mature and wanting to be their own people, so it's bittersweet!
However, when it comes to younger kids and their first days of school, pretty much everything is fair game. We have such find memories of walking our younger kiddos to school or the bus stop in the mornings, volunteering in their classrooms, and catching them in a big hug as they run out of the gate or off the bus. Those were some of our favorites years! So when we saw this video of a mom celebrating her little girl's first day of school in the most adorable way, we just had to share it!
When your daughter is young enough to think you’re still cool and not embarrassing💁🏻♀️🦄 #TheseAreTheDays❤️ #BigKidForLife✌🏼Posted by Somer Scandridge on Friday, September 13, 2019
A mom named Somer Scandridge posted this absolutely fantastic video of herself welcoming her daughter home from her first day of school. But Somer wasn't just waiting for the bus with a hug and a smile. She decided to turn it into a major party, and wore a giant blow-up unicorn costume. As her daughter descended the bus stairs, Somer started dancing. And OMG, the little girl when she saw her mom! She ran toward her screaming, "Mom!" and went in for the biggest unicorn hug we've ever seen. It's such a heartwarming video, and we really needed this today.
These early years go by so fast - they go from being excited to see their dancing unicorn mama after their first day to picking out their own clothes and walking home with friends in the blink of an eye. If you've got a little one in school this year, don't let these days pass you by without making as many amazing memories as you can. You won't ever regret it, we promise.
