Most everyone knows the frustration of waiting weeks and even months to watch something on television, only to have it interrupted by a special announcement or for there to be a programming mix up.

Fans of extreme sport Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) learned just how frustrating it can be to have the one match you've woken up extra early to watch be interrupted not by a State Address or weather warning, but by an episode of children's cartoon Peppa Pig!

Bellator 206, an MMA event that was being hosted in San Jose, was to be aired in the UK for fans on Channel 5. The fight was between middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi and welterweight champion Rory MacDonald and had many fans setting their alarms for an early morning wake up or had seen them staying up all night to watch the two champs fight each other.

However instead of getting to see Mousasi and MacDonald take to the ring, they were shown an episode of Peppa Pig instead! Due to the fact that Bellator ran over their three-hour time slot and with regulations stating that programming rated 15+ not be shown after 6 am, the fight, which was just beginning to air at 6 am UK time, was instead replaced by the children's cartoon.

Needless to say, fans were not impressed.

Still, while some fans were obviously upset at the mix-up, they completely understood why Channel 5 would preempt the violent fight for something a bit more child friendly.

Others were able to find some humor in the situation.

"I woke up to watch and Peppa Pig is on Channel 5 instead of the main event. At least it’s a good episode (the one where George and Peppa go the playground)" wrote one watcher on Twitter.

While this is definitely a frustrating event for MMA fans, Bellator president Scott Coker assured outraged fans in a press conference that he was doing everything possible to ensure something like this never happens again.

“Believe me, when it switched over there were a lot of texts going back and forth and they all were not friendly,” he said. “We were trying to fix it, we thought it was a technical glitch. But it wasn’t, it was a governmental issue. I can promise you the next time it’s not going to happen…it’s an unfortunate situation.”

At least we know that no young children woke up to two grown men beating each other up instead of seeing what Peppa Pig was doing during the day.
