Mom's 'Easy Money' Challenge To Get Someone Else To Clean Went As We Expected

Chores are something that most families argue about at some point and time. After all, no matter how many chore charts and lists that are made, it always seems that it's mom who is doing most of the heavy lifting around the house. From doing the cleaning, cooking and laundry to even the basic tidying, it's often hard to get kids and even spouses to help out a bit around the house.

One mother recently did a little experiment in her own home to see just how long it would take for someone to pick up a random piece of trash that was sitting on the floor. Most mothers would see a piece of trash and immediately pick it up and discard it in the trash can, but Miranda Crimbring wanted to see just how long it would take her own kids to pick it up instead. She even decided to reward the lucky person who decided to chip in by cleaning up with a strategically placed $5 bill hidden under the piece of trash.

Crimbring left the piece of paper with the $5 stuck to the bottom of it laying on the floor of her bathroom and then waited to see how long it would be before someone picked it up.

"Well, while trying to prove a point to my kids, we’ve just surpassed the 48hr mark of the “who will pick up the random piece of trash that they KNOW isn’t supposed to be there” challenge... Between the kids AND the husband, and MULTIPLE trips in and out of the bathroom, this little piece of heaven may just be in it for the long haul!" she wrote in her now viral Facebook post before adding the hashtags #easymoney #justdotherightthing #decorativefeature#stopthemadness.

Crimbring updated her post to let everyone know that on day 3 the piece of paper still hadn't been picked up, but it does look like it was kicked out of the way! "Checked the bathroom after the kids brushed their teeth. Paper is still there, though it looks like somebody may have kicked it? Also, please notice the newest additions (not made by me) of some used floss and toilet paper," she wrote on her Facebook post.

Finally, someone in Crimbring's house picked up the piece of trash, but even then it didn't go as expected! "The paper has been PICKED UP!!" Crimbring wrote in the comments section, updating the thousands of people who are now completely invested in her experiment. "My daughter threw her dirty clothes on top of it before getting in the tub.. when she went to grab them afterwards, it flipped money side up and kind of slid across the floor. She gasped and then shrieked in surprise saying “Oh my gosh, this was under there... five dollars!” Crimbring added the facepalm emoji before adding an even more hilarious piece of the story. "The real kicker to the story...After removing the bill from the paper, she left the paper sitting on the counter...! Also, the response from the teenager when asked why he didn’t pick it up before: “I didn’t see it... wait...”

Crimbring's post has been liked almost 400 thousand times on Facebook, most likely by fed up mothers who can totally relate to her plight of wanting anyone else but her to pitch in and clean up, especially when there is trash sitting literally in the middle of a floor. Commenters couldn't help but praise Crimbring for her genius idea, with many sharing that they were also going to try it at their own homes.

For Crimbring it seems that her little experiment gave her the perfect opportunity to speak with her family members about doing their share around the house.

"Needless to say, we had a nice long family talk afterward," Crimbring wrote of her family's response to finding the money under the note. "I suppose only time will tell if things play out any differently in the future," she added. Fingers crossed!
