Last week, KSNV News 3 reporter Michelle Velez, shared on social media why she had been missing from work, to her fans that had been questioning why she was gone. The Las Vegas news anchor spoke candidly about her few month absence, PEOPLE reported, sharing that she dramatically went from an expectant new mom to being a cancer patient.

Velez, a mom of two, revealed that she has been going through something called a molar pregnancy. For those who don't know, Velez shared this means that, “It’s a pregnancy that is not viable — meaning a fetus never formed — but instead of miscarrying… the pregnancy continued to grow and produced invasive tissue."

“I was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that was caused by an abnormal pregnancy,” Velez wrote on Facebook and Instagram. “It’s extremely complicated so I’ll try my best to make it easy to understand.”

Signs of molar pregnancy range from vaginal spotting or bleeding and nausea and vomiting.

She took to Instagram to share more information about what she's been going through, emotionally saying that "That is what happened to me. No good reason, just unfortunate dumb luck."

Velez is hopefully, but also shared the long road that she has ahead of her, "Again, The great news is this type of cancer is treatable and my doctors have every reason to believe I will be free and clear at the end of this. The bad news is I have to go through aggressive chemo to kill it. Yes I will probably lose my hair and experience other side effects of chemo. I have already made it through my first two treatments this week. Total number of rounds all depends on how long it takes the HCG levels to get to zero."

On Saturday, she took to social media to let people know she was in the hospital. She shared an update saying she needed a blood transfusion. She explains that due to the molar pregnancy condition, she's constantly bleeding and to get treatment safely, she has to maintain a certain level in her blood.

We wish her the best of luck on this journey!
