Good Morning America host Michael Strahan has accused his ex-wife of mentally and physically abusing the couple's twin teen daughters. Just last year the former spouses were embroiled in a bitter custody dispute and now the morning show host is asking the courts to grant him primary custody.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, Michael is asking the courts to strip his ex-wife, Jean Muggli Strahan of custody of their 15-year-old twins Sophia and Isabella and grant primary custody to him. According to the documents Michael alleges that Jean has exhibited a "pattern of abusive conduct towards the children for years."

Michael and Jean were married from 1999 until 2006, with the former NFL star being ordered to pay a $15.3 million divorce settlement at the time and $18,000 in child support monthly. The monthly payments were reduced to $13,000 monthly in 2009, according to The Blast.

With these new documents, Michael is claiming that he has proof of the abuse he is alleging his children have suffered at the hands of his ex-wife and that he will go into detail in sealed documents. He also claims that Jean hasn't been bringing the twins to their court-ordered therapy sessions and is also responsible for the girls missing various extracurricular activities including volleyball games and equestrian events.

Michael currently has visitation rights with his daughters but wants to be granted full custody and have the girls move from their home in North Carolina where they currently live with their mother, to New York to live with him full time. He is also asking that his former wife be held "in criminal and civil contempt for her alleged actions," according to TMZ.

Michael spoke to PEOPLE magazine in a 2016 interview about just how difficult going through a divorce was for him. Prior to his marriage to Jean, Michael was also married from 1992 to 1996 to Wanda Hutchins with whom he shares a now-grown son and daughter.

“Personally, getting divorced is probably one of the toughest things I’ve ever gone through but it was also a learning experience and I learned a lot about myself and I learned a lot about a lot of the people who were around at that time and some aren’t around anymore,” he said.

Neither Michael nor Jean have publicly commented on the recent allegations.
