After many ups and downs as of lately, Mama June is finally focusing on getting her life back on track. If you have been following her journey along on her television show Mama June: Family Crisis, the WEtv reality series, you have seen her get very candid, as she opens up about her past struggles with drug abuse.
After Mama June was arrested for drugs and totally transforming her body on the television show WeTV's Mama June: From Not to Hot, she's been hard at work on herself. Up until this point, the drugs that she had opened up about using were Fioricet, prescription pain medicine for tension headache, and Xanax, a benzodiazepine medication used to treat anxiety and panic disorders. These confessions came when she finally opened up to her daughter, Lauryn "Pumpkin" Shannon. You can imagine that there were lots of tears.
On Friday's episode, Mama June dug a little bit deeper and opened up even more about her past dependency on drugs.
PEOPLE shared that she said, "The only reason I sold the house, we was dead f---ing broke," June, 40, admitted.
"Because you know at that point we was doing quite a bit. I mean, it was a couple ounces a day."
"Our habit was $2,500 a day, if not more," she said of her methamphetamine usage. She was doing these drugs with her boyfriend, Eugene Edward "Geno" Doak.
Mama June was arrested back in March of 2019 and charged with the possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. At the time of arrest she allegedly had crack cocaine and a crack pipe on her.
Her boyfriend, Doak was also arrested at the same time. He was then charged with third-degree domestic violence, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Then the following September, they were both charged with felonies.
She proceeded to tell Pumpkin, "It wasn't something that just started, and oh my God, I started using drugs, you found out that I got busted. It wasn't. I got high because I wanted to. "It's not the first time I've ever done drugs, and you know that."
Pumpkin admitted that these were the first times that as an adult she had seen her mother under the use of drugs. Saying to her mom, "it's been the first time since we've been older that you've ever been strung out."
"The thing is like, you can't get clean and then Geno not get f---ing clean," Pumpkin said.
Due to the fact that Mama June had admitted to drug usage, Pumpkin had chosen not to have Honey Boo Boo come with her to the reunion to the reunion.
