We'll be honest: we sometimes have a hard time keeping up with who or what is "fire" right now. With social media, the landscape of coolness and popularity seems to change from day to day! Regular people have one viral TikTok and suddenly they have a blue check and they're being profiled in a bunch of magazines. Artists release new songs on IG live and the next thing we know, they're on the radio every fifteen minutes. The road from unknown to celebrity is really short these days, and a lot of people travel it VERY quickly.

So when we need a pop culture refresher, we do a temperature check with our tweens and teens and find out who or what they're currently obsessed with. And right now, they seem to be quite smitten with a 21-year old singer named Madison Beer. Here's what you need to know about the up-and-coming singer and songwriter.

Madison Beer was born in Long Island.

Madison Beer, 21, was born and raised in Jericho, Long Island. Her father builds luxury homes, and her mom is an interior designer. Madison's parents divorced when she was young, and her dad eventually remarried. Madison has one sibling, a younger brother named Ryder, with whom she shares a very close relationship.

Madison had a fairly typical childhood and upbringing. Like many kids who grew up in suburban LI, Madison spent summers at a sleepaway camp - she attended camp at Point O'Pines in upstate New York, and has many fond memories of her time spent there. In 2012, Madison celebrated her bat mitzvah with a big party where the theme was "Madison's Square Garden". Just a few months after this momentous occasion, Madison's life changed forever.

In 2012, Justin Bieber tweeted out a video of Madison singing a cover of "At Last" by Etta James.

Madison loved singing, and in 2012, she began uploading videos of herself singing on her YouTube channel. One of these videos, which featured Madison doing a cover of "At Last" by Etta James, caught the eye of someone very famous - Justin Bieber. Bieber tweeted out a link to her video, which shot Madison to fame seemingly overnight. Her name began trending on Twitter all over the world, and media outlets were trying to find out all they could about Bieber's protege.

Four months after Madison celebrated her 13th birthday with a bat mitzvah blowout, she was signed to Justin Bieber's record label, Island Records. She also signed with Scooter Braun's management team, who also manages the career of Justin Bieber. In the beginning of her career, she recorded the theme song "We Are Monster High" for the animated franchise. She also recorded a song with Cody Simpson which got air time on Radio Disney, but never got a wide release.

In September 2012, Madison released her debut single, "Melodies", which had an accompanying music video featuring a cameo by Justin Bieber. Madison ended up parting ways with Island Records and Scooter Braun in 2016, citing creative differences. She wanted to focus on more soulful, meaningful music, and felt that she was being cornered into the pop market on the label.

Since her debut, Madison Beer has been hard at work on more music.

Madison sure has come a long way since her days of singing cover songs on YouTube! In 2018, she released her debut album, As She Pleases. The album had three singles that did really well; "Dead" was released in May 2017, and "Say It To My Face" was released in November of the same year. In 2018, the third single, "Home with You" was released and hit #21 on Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 chart. Madison also made her festival debut in 2018, performing at Lollapalooza in August. In 2019, she signed with Epic Records, and her next studio album, Life Support, is slated for release sometime in 2020 or early 2021.

In addition to her music career, Madison has branched out into other business ventures and advocacy work. She's partnered with several organizations since 2013, including Do Something and Mentor Up, which helps bring technology to senior citizens, and the Move Your Body Campaign to help kids stay active. In 2016, she partnered with Adidas and Finish Line for an ad campaign. Madison also uses her massive social media following to endorse several different companies, from clothing to beauty products. In April 2016, Madison entered into a partnership with Lashes by MXV to promote their products.

All that hard work is definitely paying off.

Madison's career kicked off when she was just 13 years old, in an industry that has a notoriously high rate of turnover and burnout. But she's kept at it, recording and releasing new music without a label, building her social media presence and fan base, and partnering with companies she loves. As a result, this rising star as managed to amass a net worth of approximately $3 million, and she's just 21 years old. We have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot from Madison Beer in the years to come.
