Healthy eating for children can be a challenge. It can be difficult to get kids on board and enthusiastic about healthy food and trying new things. Well, there's good news in the form of a new TV show targeted at kids that will focus on healthy food. The kicker? It's produced by the Obamas!
While in the White House, Michelle Obama was a staunch advocate of healthy food and healthy eating for children. Most notably she launched the campaign "Let's Move" which encouraged more whole food lunch options for schools. Well the newest project is a TV show for Netflix that will be produced by Higher Ground, a production company that the Obamas founded last year.
The new show will be called Listen to Your Vegetables & Eat Your Parents and will have 30 minute long episodes that are aimed at children and reported to explore food from around the world. The premise of the show is said to “take young children and their families around the globe on an adventure that tells us the story of our food”.
The show's co-creators are Jeremy Konner and Erika Thormahlen. There is not a lot of information available about the project, just that it is a new TV show for children and that it will run on Netflix. It is still not known whether the show will be animated or live action. Additionally, there is no information about a premiere date. However, you can bet that we will be keeping our eyes peeled!
With the Obama's production company backing the new show, there is likely to be a lot of interest in it before it even begins. Starting healthy habits and helping children learn about food from a young age can influence how they approach food across the lifespan. Sadly, childhood obesity is on the rise and there are a variety of factors that influence the child's exposure and access to fresh healthy foods. Even something as simple as a TV show can help garner interest in kids about the topic of food, which can help form a knowledge base about the role it plays in our health and our lives.
