You may have heard by now (because Kardashian news spreads like wildfire) that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are expecting their fourth child this year. The couple has three children together: North, 5, Saint, 3, and Chicago, who will be a year old in a week or so. The couple has always been open about wanting a big family. But pregnancy complications made it difficult for Kim to carry another baby after Saint was born. Chicago was carried by a surrogate using Kim's fertilized egg. And now we know that baby number four will be joining the family sometime in May 2019 through a gestational carrier as well. Since the news broke that the Kardashian-West clan would be growing by one in the new year, more details are emerging about their decision to add to their family, and who the gestational carrier is this time around.
Kim and Kanye had one embryo left over after Chicago was born, and sources say they'd hoped to use the same gestational carrier this time around. But circumstances didn't work out, so they are working with a second, unidentified carrier with this baby, which is rumored to be a boy. The source says that the carrier is pregnant and everything is going well. Kim is very involved with the surrogate, attending doctor's visits and making sure the woman has everything she needs during this pregnancy. She was also very hands-on with Chicago's surrogate, and we imagine it's important to be able to be involved! All we know about the surrogate is that she's a local woman with a family of her own.
During her pregnancies with North and Saint, Kim suffered a few complications. With both babies, she had placenta accreta, which is when the placenta doesn't completely detach from the uterine wall. The condition affects about one in every 1,000 pregnancies, and can result in severe and life-threatening blood loss. Kim's doctors told her another pregnancy would be incredibly risky, so she and Kanye opted to used a gestational carrier for their third and fourth children. Sources say they're very excited about the impending arrival of their son, but have yet to do anything to prepare (stars: they procrastinate just like us!). Congrats, Kardashian-West family!
