There's some drama brewing in the Spears household! Well, more drama anyway, it seems as though Britney Spears has been in and out of the news quite a bit lately. In case you're not caught up on the latest, here's the lowdown. A few months ago, fans of the pop star became alarmed that Britney was being held against her will by her father, Jamie. Britney has been under a strict conservatorship managed by Jamie Spears for 11 years now, and has made some incredible progress in that time.

But some fans believed that Britney was actually unhappy with the way things were going, and actually started a hashtag to draw attention to her plight. #FreeBritney trended on social media for a time (with a boost from Britney's own mother, Lynn), until Britney herself spoke out and assured everyone she was fine. THEN, things got even worse - Jamie Spears is now under criminal investigation for allegedly breaking down a door and putting his hands on one of Britney's sons with Kevin Federline.

Kevin took swift action and filed a restraining order that prohibits Jamie from having any contact with Jayden or Sean, his kids with Britney. Now, sources are saying Kevin could use this as leverage to oust Jamie from the conservatorship that has been controlling Britney for over a decade.

On August 24, an incident at Jamie Spears' home in Ventura County sparked a call to authorities and opened an investigation into child abuse allegations. Kevin Federline says 13-year-old Sean got into an argument with his grandfather, and Jamie Spears broke down a door in the home and grabbed the boy. Federline reported the incident to police, and filed a restraining order against his former father-in-law.

Jamie is prohibited from having any contact with Sean or 8-year-old Jayden. Considering a large part of his role as head of Britney's conservatorship includes overseeing the welfare of her kids, that poses a pretty significant problem. So sources believe that Kevin Federline will use this opportunity to remove Jamie from the conservatorship in light of recent events.

However, Britney herself has come to her dad's defense, and a judge may feel as though Jamie is the only one who can handle the enormous responsibility the conservatorship entails. In the time she's been under his control, her life has completely turned around, with lucrative jobs and more time with her kids.

Jamie Spears  has recently filed legal documents to remove himself as her conservator, but is only asking for this to happen for 4 months. He is asking "to temporarily relinquish the powers of conservatorship ... due to personal health reasons," TMZ reports.

It'll be interesting to see what happens now that the safety and well-being of her sons is on the line.
