Surprise! Singer and actress Kelly Rowland shared her new cover of this month's Women's Health magazine on Instagram today where she officially announced that she is expecting her second child.  The cover shows the mother of one showing off her baby bump for the very first time and in the interview, she reveals that at almost 40 she's is celebrating all that her body can do.

Like many couples, Rowland explained that she and her husband Tim Weatherspoon had been contemplating having another child. “We had been talking about it loosely, and then COVID happened, and we were just like, ‘Let’s see what happens,’” Rowland said in the interview. Much to her surprise and delight, Rowland got pregnant almost immediately. Although thrilled with the news that she and her husband were expecting their second child, she admits that she a bit hesitant to share her happy news.

The singer explained that with the current health pandemic, the racial unrest that was happening across the country, and the economic impact of the pandemic many were feeling,  she felt a bit uneasy about sharing such happy news. “But you still want to remind people that life is important,” she says.  “And being able to have a child…I’m knocking at 40’s door in February. Taking care of myself means a lot to me.”

The mother of Titan, her son with Weatherspoon who will turn 6-years-old in November, has always made her health and wellbeing a priority, making sure she ate well and exercised regularly. “I don’t really count calories,” she explained, saying that she simply listens to her body. Now that she's pregnant again at 39, her body is reacting much differently than it did with her first pregnancy.

She said that once her doctor told her she was pregnant, an “overwhelming sense of exhaustion hit,” adding that her first trimester with this baby at almost 40 is a lot different than when she was pregnant with her son in her early 30's. “I swam, I did yoga, I did weights, I jogged and walked,” she said of being pregnant with Titan, while during her first trimester with this baby she said she spent much of it "in bed," resting.

Rowland has always worked hard on her health and fitness, working with trainer Massy Arias or at her local gym. Now that she's pregnant her fitness routine looks a bit different, consisting of "yoga, walks, and stretches aided by a physical therapist," but says that she and Arias will work on a new fitness plan that works for her.

Women have been told for so long that pregnancy isn't ideal as you approach 40 so it's amazing to see women like Rowland rocking it and proving that while pregnancy may be different as you get older, it is still amazing and possible.
