With the coronavirus spreading at unprecedented speed throughout the world, lots of families are changing their holiday plans — and that's even true celebrity influencers. The legendary Kardashian Christmas party, which has been a Los Angeles tradition since before the famous sisters were born, won't happen this year because of concerns for the health of family and friends, Khloe confirmed on Twitter.

The decision, according to PEOPLE, comes after Southern California imposed strict rules on public and private gatherings as the pandemic has reached new heights and overloaded hospital intensive care units.

Considering the fact that Kim Kardashian West got a big backlash from her celebrity-laden 40th birthday bash a few months ago, canceling the Christmas party is a big sign that even the rich and famous are starting to take the pandemic seriously.

A month ago, Khloe Kardashian replied to a tweet that she was hoping that the family could still get together for their annual glitzy event, although she noted that the crowd would likely be smaller. But the plans have changed now.

The KarJenners have faced a lot of backlash about their behavior during 2020. While many people have quarantined, Kim flew people to a private island to celebrate her birthday, Kendall hosted a big Halloween party, and Kourtney stirred the pot with a conspiracy theory, according to The Atlantic. The family has been on damage control ever since.

As much as they seem above it all, celebrities aren't immune to getting sick, and Khloe's bout with COVID was documented on the family's reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Kim's husband Kanye West also caught the disease.

Finally, a Kardashian event is canceled, and this one is a big one. Kim, who took over the hosting duties in recent years, reportedly spent more than $1 million on the lavish event, for which Hollywood's finest mark their calendars each year. But no one wants to be accused of hosting a super-spreader — especially if it could get Jennifer Lopes sick.

But as Khloe said, there is always next year — that is, if a vaccine has been distributed and everyone is still around to celebrate.
