Kanye West surprised wife Kim Kardashian with a truly unique gift for her 40th birthday and the reaction has been mixed. The rapper gifted the SKIMS founder with a hologram of her late father, Robert Kardashian Sr., delivering a birthday message to his daughter.
"For my birthday, Kanye got me the most thoughtful gift of a lifetime. A special surprise from heaven. A hologram of my dad. It is so lifelike! We watched it over and over, filled with emotion," Kardashian wrote on Twitter before sharing the video of the Kardashian patriarch's hologram message.
Kardashian, who was dragged online after posting about flying her close friends and family to a private island to celebrate her birthday amid a health pandemic seemed to ignore the critics and continued posting about the 'life-like' hologram she received of her late father. "I can’t even describe what this meant to me and my sisters, my brother, my mom and closest friends to experience together. Thank you so much Kanye for this memory that will last a lifetime. Here’s a more close up view to see the incredible detail," she captioned a post on social media.
And as with her posts about her elaborate birthday party, social media users took no time calling out the KKW Beauty creator online and criticizing her for continuing to speak out about her party when others are suffering during the health crisis.
“I think this is literally the background plot for Westworld, isn’t it?” wrote one commenter, while another added, "Kim Kardashian getting a hologram of her dead dad while millions of Americans didn’t even get to tell their parents goodbye or go to their funerals thanks to COVID is too on the nose."
According to TMZ, West worked hard on the hologram and "spent a lot of time in the studio pouring over old video and audio of Robert to bring the vision to life." Artificial intelligence was used to complete the project started by the rapper back in September. The video was reportedly played for the reality star during her lavish birthday extravaganza.
Page Six reports that Kim spent $1 million on the trip to fly her friends and family to an exclusive island to celebrate her milestone birthday. Despite undergoing a two-week quarantine and multiple tests prior to leaving for the trip people called out the famous family for flaunting their privilege while so many have experienced so much loss during the pandemic. It doesn't appear that Kim is too concerned about the criticism as she continues to post about her 40th birthday trip.
