It seems like a lot of the US is just waiting for the election to be over. The tension is heavy in the US right now as the big day comes closer and closer. We have seen rallies, arguments and one (not too productive) presidential debate. After the debate between President Trump and Joe Biden, many moms out there really thought that a mom should have been involved. That a mom should have moderated the debate. They got their chance to see a mom in action when the vice-presidential debate was on, and they have now picked up her unique nickname, “Momala” and she is doing moms everywhere proud.

According to Romper, after the debate, Twitter went crazy with praising Kamala for her role in the debate and they said that she immediately came on stage with the “look.” That is the look every mom gives when her child is up to no good or is lying.

Kamala’s bio on Twitter includes the cheeky nickname and she states that her stepchildren gave her that name when she married their dad. Kamala has also said that of all the titles she has had throughout her life, that is the one that means the most to her.

However, Kamala is not the first mother to try and edger her way to the top spot in politics. We have seen Hilary Clinton and Sarah Palin come before her, and it highlights how hard it can be for mothers to get noticed in the political world.

The way Kamala handled Vice-president Mike Pence also highlighted the nature of a mom. When he tried to interrupt her, Kamala went into mom-mode and it was almost like she was speaking to one of her children who was misbehaving, but it worked. Twitter has taken to referring to Kamala as “mom,” and no one is quite sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Does this undervalue her serious position running with Joe Biden, or does this add validation and confirmation that she is tough and will do a good job?

Regardless of the outcome of the election, Kamala is the first mother of her kind to try and take a stronger leadership role in the US government. She is a Indian-American, Black Stepmother and she is making history. Courtney Phillips is a co-founder of a Twitter page called Mamas4Kamala and the page is full of support from a group of moms to a fellow mom.
