Dinosaurs are making quite the comeback! Well, not an *actual* comeback, although that would be very cool and also incredibly terrifying. But the Jurassic Park movie series has turned entire generations into dino-lovers and budding paleontologists. The original Jurassic Park came out in 1993 (so long ago!), with sequels The Lost World and Jurassic Park 3 in 1997 and 2001, respectively. Then we had a loooooong dino drought until the Jurassic World movies came out. The first of that series, Jurassic World, hit in 2015, and last year we got Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. And there's ANOTHER one, Jurassic World 3, coming in 2021! It's a veritable boon of dinosaur movies, and we're here for it. But what do you do when you've got a little dino fan, someone who might be too young to handle the violence and scares of the live-action movies?
Well, lucky for you, there's something coming for them, too. Dreamworks TV and Netflix are teaming up on an animated Jurassic World series, and we have to admit, we're as excited for this as our kids.
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous follows six teenagers as they arrive at a new adventure camp, which just happens to be set on Isla Nublar, the site of many a dino-related disaster. Does no one watch the news?! Who would send their kid to a failed dinosaur island for camp?? Obviously things go terribly wrong, as things are wont to do on Isla Nublar. Dinosaurs escape (duh, they do that), campers have to fight for survival, it's a whole big thing. Seriously, someone needs to just shut that whole island down, it's never going to work as a tourism destination.
The animation used in the series looks really cool - just as we marveled at how real the dinosaurs looked in the movies, we were blown away by the dinosaurs in this sneak peek! Aside from the fact that this animated series will have our kids begging to be able to go to dinosaur camp, we can't wait for it to come out! Details are pretty scarce at this point, though. Dreamworks kept this one pretty under wraps, and they didn't specify a release date or anything. But we'll be closing a close eye on this one, for sure.
