Wait, Derick Dillard and Jill Duggar plan to send their kids to college? When you think of the Duggar family, a few things probably come to mind. You know they have a lot of kids (as rumored members of the Quiverfull movement, the Duggars don't believe in or use birth control and procreate in hyper-speed). You know they marry young, and practice courtship rituals like no hand-holding or solo dates until marriage.
You're probably familiar with their radically conservative political and social views. And you probably know that the family does not participate in traditional education, opting instead to homeschool the kids through high school. Perhaps because of this, the Duggars have never been big on continued education - some of the older kids have gone on to complete technical training programs, but college isn't something the Duggars really encourage. However, as times change, even the Duggars can change!
In a recent Instagram post, Jill Duggar's husband Derick Dillard responded to a fan who asked if their kids would ever attend college.
In a recent post on his personal Instagram page, Derick Dillard got tongues wagging with his response to a fan's question. Derick posted a picture of his son Israel posing with Pistol Pete, who's the mascot for Oklahoma State University. From the picture, it looks like Derick and Israel are OSU football fans. Which in and of itself isn't surprising - college football has lots of fans! But in his caption, Derick mentioned a future generation of OSU fans/possibly students, so a fan asked if Derick and Jill's kids will one day attend college. Derick responded with, "Probably." Which sort of flies in the face of everything the Duggar family promotes and encourages.
Considering that Duggar kids typically head straight into marriage as soon as they're of legal age, it's surprising that Derick and Jill seem to have different plans for their own kids. But Derick himself is a fan of higher education - he attended OSU, and is currently enrolled in the University of Arkansas School of Law. He made the decision to return to school after he and Jill were removed from filming the Duggar reality show, Counting On. When that TV money runs out, at least he has a backup plan!
In all seriousness, we're glad that Derick and Jill are leaving the door open for their kids to continue their education one day.
